This may be a solution for a mates problem - does it work well?

Yes, i'm using it now.... only good if you have a single fuse box though. If seperated for any reason then there could be problems.

I've got several and recommend them if you have solid walls - also zero configuration just plug them in - very quick too

Same here, although i had to change one socket in the bedroom i was trying to "reach" from one ring main to the other.

Works OK at low speed stuff like sharing the internet around, but it's not that good, struggles with streaming HD video.

His main use is x-box gaming - any comments?

Works fine for me as well.

Each of my sons have their gaming PC's connected via Netplugs to our Router and no complaints so must work well enough.

However they do not fare that well if put on the end of an extension lead.

The speed depends on the type you buy - mine are super quick and easily fine for streaming movies - and certainly quicker and more reliable than wi-fi

The 85meg ones I have don't come close to the performance of wireless N - I can stream HD movies fine to the laptop over wifi but not over homeplug. File transfers are dog slow too. I dare say the "AV" ones are much better but for the money I'd run a cable...

He lives in a listed building and of course the router is the furthest point away from his toys! There are ways to run a cable that comply with the rules but far too expensive for him. He is also quite far from the Exchange so wireless is unlikely to do the job

We use four 200 Mbps adapters to link router, PS3, and 2 PCs. No problems at all, including streaming video from my PC to the PS3 (which was unusable on wireless).

We've got wireless PC > PS3 streaming video - no probs...

I use 85meg ones and stream HD fine - however this also depends on whats streaming them. If I stream from my NAS drive it jutters; stream from my mac over them and its fine.
