New car - Decisions decisions!

Looking to upgrade at the end of the year, my aim is to go down the AMG route...not brand new, thinking about 51/02 registered car. Can make my mind up what to go for though...

I like the look of the CLK 55AMG and also the C32 - from what ive read performance wise there isnt much in it, although like the thought/sound of the V8! I'd be interested in how they compare running cost wise? Fuel isnt a massive issue as I only do around 10k/year max.

Whats everyone thoughts?

I must admit I've been scanning the Autotrader and PistonHeads for CLK55's lately as well.

As soon as my mileage drops below 18,000 miles a year I might be going, er, shopping!

Suppose its only now that they're more affordable to a lot of people. Would just like to get an idea of servicing costs etc. Also any known problems, recall work that should've been carried out etc.

CLK55's are fantastic Q cars. Very fast, classy, timeless, relatively economical, bombproof V8, V8 rumble and roar ... and cheap!

Personally, my unbiased opinion is that the SL60 AMG is the best car in the whole world...............

Agree the SL60 is a great car. BUT ... Personally, if you're looking for a real bombproof car, than I would say its the W124 220CE. Bombproof engine, bombproof body and still turns heads:bannana: :bannana:

I guess if it had '55 performance and noise then it genuinely would be perfect

Just need to get that w124 V8 transplant worked out. Then there will be a stampede to get that conversion done. I see a market opportunity here Ian W. If theres any petrol left by that time of course .

the Jaguar supercharged V8 does not make sounds nearly as glorious as the Merc AMG V8.

It's more powerful yes, but not the same!

Personally I prefer the supercharged Jag sound - proper woofly compared to the NA 55!

Just don't waste your money on this .

I was thinking the same as Howard. Removed of its badges and the hideous numberplate that's not a bad looking car at all, if a little over wheeled and over lowered for my tastes.

Those badges on that car is the automotive equivalent of stuffing a rolled up pair of socks down your trousers.
