New car delivery

Same experience as moff - Exeter to Derby - same explanation of trip, speed and mpg - it was raining when delivered so I signed for it stating this and that not fully inspected by me.

Driver then asked me how to get to train station - I assume this is how he got back ( maybe he was angling for a lift , but he didn't push it and I didn't offer, I wanted the first drive to be on my own!)

I was nicer than you and gave him a lift ;-)

Gave me a chance to go out and he taught me a few things like the double brake that holds the car while stationary. I hadn't been to that particular train station so used the sat nav too.

All in all a good experience but I would have preferred to collect in person and this was an option for me, but didn't fancy the 8 hour 500 mile round trip as was too busy.

Bazola - just check mpg when they arrive which will prove if it's been ragged. If it has go mad!!

One of my colleagues has just handed back his leased A8. Three years old 24k on clock and he so loved and cherished it. Polished most weekends and just like new when it was collected by a driver for the lease company. Before being handed over, was checked twice by lease company, for any faults, and that it was the car they had leased to us ! Seemingly been some problems with identity swap scam. Anyway car park hand over done, video taken by the driver of inside and outside of car. He connected car computer to his laptop and downloaded heavens knows what and then got in started her up and drove into the car park barrier !!! Colleague did not know whether to laugh or cry. I laughed !! Driver then reversed off the barrier and drove out without a backward look. Wish I had a video

I live next to a guy who delivers new cars. The new car novelty wears off extremely quickly but his boss is hot on erratic delivery complaints. Not sure if it is true with all cases but apparently 3 complaints and you're out...

They keep the drivers working in fear and constantly remind them that with the current recession it is not hard to find replacements, so it is in the delivery drivers best interests to keep the customer happy.

On one of his return journeys from Scotland he was faced with a 5 mile walk to the nearest bus stop which would take 2 hours to get to a train station...bit of a nightmare.

Sometimes he catches a break with the customer offering him a lift to a bus stop/train station.

When MB Corporate delivered a demo car to me at home, I'd been all set to run the guy to the station (about 5 miles away) but a taxi arrived to collect the driver as he was handing the car over.

I've had the same or similar with demo cars from Corporate - they've either arranged something in advance, or phoned me to see if I could drop them somewhere or if a taxi would be better.

The only other thing I'd add is that the delivery drivers I've had (either from MB dealers or Corporate) have all been older guys and always in branded clothes too. Whilst it's no guarantee, I've always felt happy handing over the keys to the guy from my local dealer who's probably in his 50s rather than a young lad.
