I think that's the best idea.

New set of MB plates at the weekend (spaced legally ;)) and I'll leave it as is for the moment, whilst casually looking out for an appropriate (meaningful, reasonably priced) 3x3 plate or similar.

As I've said, I'm not really into plates but if I'm going to the effort of changing it might as well be for something that warrants it :)

Will what are you initials or PM me if you want,

I'm always searching for random plates to add to my collection. After one for my daughter (she is ony 2.5yrs old) but I will put it on my father inlaws ML...

Brothers currently got SLX 280 on his wifes car...

All good stuff, I can look while 'looking'

Cheers

I'd leave it as is unless you really want a new plate.

Personally I don't really understand these things and unless it said WILL 1 or something I wouldn't bother.

Cooking private plates on 8 year old cars look like the owner is ashamed of the true age of the car. ;)

Well, my Disco is 13 years old and my W124 is 15 years old, but that's not the reason why I have/will have 3x3 plates on them.

It is hard to describe, but it is very nice seeing 'your' plate on 'your' car:cool: I move my plates from car to car.

I'd get a 51 plate, but i'm probably part of the 1% of the forum (if that) that doesn't agree with private plates.

horses for courses :)

my car also doesn't have a pet name (as it currently works) ;)

no offence intended btw as this can be a hot topic.

Will has an exceptional car. A fancy plate IMHO is superfluous. :)

I'd be tempted to sell the existing one - bound to be someone out there that it has more meaning too who will be willing to pay for it. Then get a standard 51 plate on it and pocket the change

Personalised plates are very marmite I find - people either love 'em or hate 'em ;)

Cheers,
Mark

I would to Mercedes and get a set of plates made up, I think with it layed out with the correct gaps and right type face it will take the edge of it and will look more like a private plate thats not trying to hard if that makes sence!!
Also the car looks Great in silver and the wheels look Just right with it.

I am in the legalise those plates and leave them on...but register them with the number plate selling companies.

someone may want them, and then you can revert it to its normal year number unless you want a number of your choice.

following my suggestion will cost you a set of new number plates, and very little hassle.

Remove the current plate, sell it, and get a normal 51 plate. Use the money for petrol tyres....(it will use a lot of both)

Cheers guys.

I was in MB parts today collecting some bits. Nearly bought some new plates but thought I'll leave it another week/two whilst I finally decide whether to keep them in the short-medium term or whether to change the registration mark in the immediate future.

I'm now 80%ish sure that I'll leave the current registration on, and perhaps seeing if it's of any use to someone else in the meantime :) Unless I spot a great suitable plate for a bargain price in the next few days...

I'd probably swap it to a '51 plate for the cost of the fees if someone wants a free registration? Acrylic plates included F.O.C :D

I voted get a 3x3, however I'd actually get it valued and listed for sale ASAP by some of the reg sales companies. Once it's listed I'd leave the current plate on (and as suggested by others get some new MB plates made).

It can take quite some time to sell a plate, I had a plate listed with Reg Transfers (got the plate in a similar way to you it was on a car I bough). They had it listed for over 18 months and it's just sold a couple of months ago. I've got another one listed with them at the moment and I can tell you that their markup is quite healthy.

I have tried selling privately with classified ads in car magazines but it's difficult to get the exposure you need. You may get lucky, a couple of times I've either been stopped in traffic or had a note on the windscreen with various people offering to buy a plate that has been on one of our cars.

Best place to buy/sell plates is eBay!

LOL,

Just looked on Regtransfers.co.uk, they're actually advertising the plate on my car at the moment for £575.00 + £105.00 fees...

I've known/heard of loads of plate companies advertising plates that they don't own - but it just goes to show that you'd be silly to get excited over a plate that you might find for sale, there's absolutely no guarantee that you'll be able to buy it.

That's exactly what happened to me with my S-Class Reg. Advertised for £1,000 by a Reg Co and also it was on the DVLA sight for £350.

previous owner probably had it put up by them and sold the car before the plate went. contact them to let them know you know own the car. You can even get them to lower the price so that it may go quicker. get them to put it up at £300.

Total cost to you. 1 email.

and a set of plates when you get notified of its transfer.
