Evening All,

I recently replaced all 4 tyres on my 124 E220 estate with Premium Contact II tyres. Within a few days, the ABS light has come on and the rev counter runs up to 3000rpm in N & P and the acceleration/gear change has become erratic.

I'm hoping this is just an unhappy coincidence and not a transmission problem.

Having looked at the ABS related posts, I can't get my head around whether or not it may be the OVP issue. :dk:

Any ideas/help appreciated!

Sound like the ovp relay, have you checked the fuse in the top of it?

thanks carat.
Not yet, what should I look for?

Not yet, what should I look for?

Behind the battery is black plastic shroud, remove this, and the ovp relay is on the right, by the bonnet hinge. It may have a small black plastic cover but it should look like this:

Thanks, I'll take a look in the morning.

BTW... how are the Contis? I might be getting these next week...

The Contis are nice - very quiet and stick well.

So I changed the fuse on the OVP. Still got the light on though and the car is changing gear and accelerating erraticly.

Revs have calmed down a little, but thats it

What steps can I take now?

Is it possible a speed detector wire was dislodged or damaged when the tyres were fitted?

Speed sensor would be my guess.

Think the 2 problems are unrelated. The increased off load speed = sticking throttle cable/ faulty throttle body. The ABS light almost certainly a wheel sensor problem as suggested. The only factor that might cause both problems would be a faulty supply voltage to both ABS and ECU units or hence the OVP suggestion which can cause this. Measure the voltage output from the OVP outlet- it should not be markedly different to the battery voltage----- if there there is appreciably voltage drop then the OVP internal connections/contacts are faulty. [ its a very common fault and can sometimes be corrected by resoldered the relay internal circuit board] if not a new relay may be the answer.
