New driving licence

Really it’s both of the links @andyR43 and @jdrrco posted that state you can still drive after applying at a post office or by post, but it’s @andyR43’s link which applies for @Darrell as it’s for a licence renewal after the date has expired including a change to address/details, @jdrrco’s link is for change of address on a valid licence, with the option to update your photo if it is still valid for two or more years.

Whatever though, both clearly state you can still drive after applying 👍

Good luck with the interview too Darrel 🤞

Thanks.

My driving licence (the card) expired in 2018 and we moved house the same month so at the end of May this year I applied for a new one. Don’t ask.

It was received on June 11 but I’ve heard nothing since. I called their numbers and I just get a recorded message telling me to call back later!!
If I go onto the webchat the message tells me that their staff are very busy.

I going for an interview with Pimlico Plumbing soon and I don’t want a lack of license to screw up my chances.

Any ideas??
I don’t think they even go by your liscene they go on DVLA website (or the GOV) one and check to see if you have points or a ban

I get what you say about the leak detection guys. I have a slight seep in my central heating, and as their website states "We WILL find it", I had them out twice. They didn't find it, but they declined to refund the £400 fee either time...

If they are that confident they will find the leak, what are they charging £400 for ?
Which brings me on to my next question, why did you use them again ?
Asking for a friend.

There are not very many firms offering the leak detection service (drain the system, fill with a nitrogen/hydrogen mix, 95%/5%, then use a hydrogen sniffer device), and they all charge pretty much the same. You're paying (through the nose...) for the diagnosis, the same as if you get your local MB dealer to put a car on STAR and no fault code is found.

I gave them a second go because the rate of pressure loss had worsened, but they still couldn't find it. Best guess is that it's a slight leak at a soldered joint, which is opening up as the system heats up, but closes again when it cools, and of course the gas mix goes into a cold system. They even left the gas cylinder connected overnight, at 2 bar, but the pressure did not drop enough to measure.

Registering your VIN to your Mercedes me account via the app is a good idea, but in itself it won't show you the car's factory options.

Google "MB Vin Decoder" to get the list of options.

Thanks for the answers, good luck with your search.

It's been a while, and I've just looked on t'internet, and there is at least one firm now offering a no find, no fee service. Time for another try...

A few years back we had leak, that was identified by a rolling water meter when all the taps were off.

We had plumbing cover from British Gas cover, who use Dynarod, who contracted leak detector specialists. They attended the property on three occasions, using IR cameras and gas, but couldn't find the leak.

They then removed a small part of the skirting boards but couldn't fine any damp areas. Their next move was to start lifting floorboards at the ground floor, which they weren't going to make good because that isn't part of the cover.

So what we did instead of having them lift the floorboards was ask a local plumber to isolate the water pipes wherever he saw an isolator, and by error and trial we figured out which section was causing the meter to run.

We then had that section cut-off and the pipe feeding it capped, and ran a new water pipe above the skirting boards instead of the underfloor one. It worked......

So yes, some leaks can be fiendishly difficult to find.

Just to say the online DVLA site seems to be working fine at the moment.
Applied for new photo licence on the 5th Jan, arrived today on the 8th. I have one of those big birthdays looming in March

One of my sons applied for a provisional licence at the beginning of November. He received his supporting documents last Friday, but still no licence yet.
