E300 hybrid estate
Hi All,

Picked up a new E-class E300 SE hybrid today as a company car.

Just wondering are they supposed to come with mats? Noticed when I got home there were none fitted, seems a bit mean on a £40K car.

The last few cars I have had - A6 and E250 merc just had the mats fitted when I collected the car, so I didn't even bother to ask about them when I ordered this one.

Interested to hear if other people's cars came with mats?

Also number plate screwed on with self tapping screws but no covers - don't they usually have white screw caps for the front plate and yellow for the rear - looks a bit naff.

Mats (and flaps) are extra on most cars...although many dealers will throw them in to sweeten the deal.

Both our MBs have the screws with no covers. at least they appear to be stainless. It seems that this is the new preferred method of fixing plates on MBs

It's a case of if you don't ask you don't get.

Yes, the screws on Mercedes are typically just stainless steel, no horrible plastic caps :) it's one of the traditional features...

As for the mats, I'm not sure, could well be your lease company cutting corners! When I got my old 5 series as a company car, I actually got 2 sets of mats, the original BMW ones and a set of lease company branded ones!

Oh, doesn't look too bad on the front with the white number plate but doesn't look good on the rear yellow plate - the screws don't look stainless to me, they are those cheapo self tapping screws with the washer built into the screw.

Ref the mats, yes I also had a 5 series where I got 2 sets of mats, BMW ones + some from the lease company. This latest car is leased by my company directly with MB finance. Will push back in the morning to see if I can get them thrown in.

Having recently bought 2 new Mercedes we did have mats in the spec list so have them provided at new.

My last "brand new" merc was a CLK back in 2008, now that did not have them specified and the dealer had no intention of installing them until I negotiated as an extra thrown in.....which he finally did......

You may have missed the boat by now tho.:(

If the dealer is screwed right down on price then they will hold back on the other "extra" little things that cost money, and they are are not obliged to do.

Speak to your dealer about number plate surrounds - or take a look on ebay. They may give you a set, or charge perhaps £10 for two.

As others have said , mats are optional extras , often thrown in by the supplying dealer .

As for number plate fixings , they should be machine screws ( M6 IIRC ) to fit the threaded receptacles in the panel . If they were self tappers gouged into the metalwork , I would have something to say about that . There are four receptacles on the rear panel , and two on the plate mount on the front bumper .

On some cars , after a while , the screws can corrode into the receptacles and , if replacing plates , the receptacles can come out . In that event , rather than using 'sticky fixers' I sometimes remove all four receptacles and , putting washers behind the panel , just use pop rivets to secure the plate - this has the advantages of being most unlikely to fall off and thieves cannot just undo the screws to steal the plates . Moreover , when garages use adhesive pads , they invariably put the plates on squint or off centre , which really bugs me .

Its a lease car.....a lot of leasing companies will not pay for mats unless they are specified with the original order and then worked into the lease rental.

Some leasing companies will fit their own logo'd cheap nasty mats into a car for free.

My c63 came purchased last year came with mats and has screws in the front plate but they have a blue and a white cap on them, the rear is stuck on.

My Ml purchased last year came with mats and screws in both front and rear plates, both wewre covered with plastic caps of the correct colour (blue and white, blue and yellow).

The a-class I bought my dad didn't come with mats :-( But I did get a very nice discount.

All of these were purchased new. So I am not sure if this is something that has occured since september last year.

The screw caps would be a local initiative by the registering dealer, I presume.

My reg plates were stuck to the frames with double sided tape. And the frames were mounted by M6 screws. I guess they wanted it to look nice but changing plates is a hassle now.

In case of SLK, plain scews with no covers, it doesn't look too good but plates are easy to replace.

Yes it could be, I have bought a fair few cars from the same dealer over the years and I can;t recall their being plain screws. My wifes previous ml came from brooklands mercedes and the plates on that were just plain head screws with no covers.

Mats included (but were part of the "AMG" spec I think and the plates are just silver screws. Don't mind them actually.

What an impressive initiative- that would really swing a purchase for me :D

Should have got the E350 - free mats.

If you get the hybrid Mercedes assumes you are a tightwad so will be okay taking the scissors to some off cuts of Axminster you saved from when you had the parlour carpeted.
