Not sure weather I've posted in the correct topic but here goes.
I've had a new set of number plates on my car near around a year now which my local auto spares made me but as I like attention to detail I was wanting a set of genuine dealer plates back on my car, the ones which says Mercedes-Benz of Sheffield across the bottom.
So my question is simply this.
Does anyone know how much Mb charge for a pair of plates??

Cheers Tom

No idea what MB charge as it is the dealer that makes them... Pop in to Meadowhall and ask them at the parts desk.

£30 supply and fit, 7yrs ago!

Would this be legal?...apart from the lettering!

That's honey comb isn't it? (just making sure) don't know if they are legal but they are an MOT failure so I assume they are not legal.

Yep it is, why it affects MOT's ill never understand.

The 3D lettering is okay but not the honeycomb. Saying that I have very similar on my 107 500SL and never had a problem (so far!)

A honeycomb background is allowed on vehicles registered before 1st September 2001, provided the plates weren't fitted since then (though that's difficult for the tester to check).

Thanks for that mrgsm.
I've just bought a 190e 2.6 today for £400. Absolute bargain. So gonna need 2 sets now.
I'll try Sheffield (meadowhall) first and if not then I'll try chesterfield.
I know its jct600 that owns Sheffield.

As my origional post stated, must be dealer plates. I think they give a better look than aftermarket ones

MB Dealers are just like any other company that makes plates.

They either have their own machine or they sub it out to a local supplier.

Either way the final product will vary depending on operator and the dealer principles stipulations, if any.

As all ready linked, Show Plates 2 Go will let you copy exactly what your local dealer plates look like (assuming you have some to copy) and will also let you add an MB logo if you fancy it when maybe your local dealer doesn't offer this but an MB dealer 50 miles away might.

The same plate made by 20 dealers will not all be identical ignoring dealer names obviously!

How are they allowed to do this when the three-pointed star is MB's intellectual property? Can't believe they are making these plates under licence, so chances are they're effectively contraband. Seems a lot of trouble to go to replicate something an MB dealership down the road will do while you wait. In my experience, they'll also fit them free of charge.

I guess that by calling them 'show plates' they feel they can make any type of plate - legal or otherwise? Or is it the fact that they are located in Co. Limerick, out of reach of the DVLA?

They should be supplying them free of charge too! The OP should point out to them how much the advertising is worth, the value must be far more than a set of plates, particularly if you have a motor worth looking at. :thumb:
