New MB owner

Hi all, just traded in the V70 for an 08 E Class Estate (W211?) 320CDI Avantgarde with more toys than Father Xmas. I reckon I'll never find out how to use everything - the manuals are too thick!

The only thing I'm unsure of at the moment, is the star pointing up from the bonnet. If these get stolen or vandalised do they cause a lot of damage to the bonnet?

Can they easily be removed so that they are not a temptation?

Can the front grill be replaced with one that has the star in it like the new C Class Sport?

I find the star helps you know where the front of the car is when u park.. : )
but if needs be you can out the flat badge on the bonnet to give yourself peace of mind, if it was stolen I dnt think it would do any damage...but we'll wait for some else to confirm that.

The grille can be replaced but personally I dnt think it looks gud

I say keep the star, at least until someone else decides they want it.

AFAIK any star thefts reported on this forum have not damaged the bonnet.

Do you have nice wheels on it? Someone may want those too, so best put steelies on just incase. Where do you stop?

I had an old 123 series for some years, on which the star was broken off on 6 occasions. It was a nusiance, but the bonnet star was relatively easy to replace. Interestingly, none of the more modern Mercs I have owned have attracted this form of attention. The bonnet star looks good, so I would leave it on there, and only consider removing it if vandalism does become a problem.

yeah my old man star used to get nicked quite often years ago and it did no damage. the star is on a ball that moves around in its own socket(quite clever) so if its stolen or damaged they just remove the socket and replace it with a complete new star and socket
