C32 AMG
Hi All,

First post! (and brief story)

Recently I bought a C32 AMG from a forum member. I had always lusted after one since reading the reviews in Autocar presenting statistics of 100 in under 11 seconds from a rather ordinary looking estate. When I saw this one advertised on the forum I quickly discounted the B6 S4’s I was previously looking at and made the trip to Rugby to view the car. After a very sedate start to the test drive the owner demonstrated the aforementioned stats, and after a second trip up the M1 I returned very happy with the C32.

Two days after purchase I drove it to Stockholm.

Our route took us from Hook to Folkestone; under the channel; France, Belgium, Netherlands, autobahns of Germany; one night in Kiel on the Baltic coast; ferry to Rødby, Denmark, then across the bridge to Malmö with a final 7 hour drive up the length of Sweden to Stockholm.

The trip took 2 days, with the car averaging an impressive 26mpg. The car was faultless for the whole journey; very confortable, surprisingly economical, and able to outrun nearly anything that challenged it despite being loaded to the roof with my belongings.

3 weeks later I still think it’s great. For a ‘charged V6 it makes a surprisingly good noise when you put your foot down; and it does move quite quickly. Off the line traction is incredible considering it’s channeling 350ish through 2x 245 sections; though I’m yet to challenge the traction in the snow! It also goes round corners, which I wasn’t expecting.

Things I’m not liking: the auto box is slow (nowhere near as modern/intuitive as the one on my 123d previous), fuel consumption is now crippling round town (14-20mpg), and whilst the car is very comfortable I’ve seen better interiors (Merc’s cost cutting of this era has a lot to answer for!).

Overall I think it’s a great car. I’m due to drive it back to the UK in the next couple of months, so will keep you posted!

Thanks,

J

Wow, what a trip, and what a beautiful place to end it.

Enjoy your new car!

Welcome and great choice of car (although having a '32 myself i would say that...) your not far from me being in Hook....I'm in Aldershot...don't see too many AMG's round here...and i know the feeling when chav chariots dont realise the AMG badge isn't just for display....

Hi James and welcome to the forum

Hi James, welcome.

Welcome James.

What a trip and the best way to get to know your new car.

Great car you've bought and a nice trip for you!
Enjoy your drive back to the UK.

Well done

C32 Est (not may about !)

A nice trip but with some horrible driving through Germany if it's busy.

We've done similar but went North to Flensburg then Denmark, taking an entertaining ferry ride in high wind from Als to Faaborg just for fun, then over the bridge at Nyborg when it was the longest bridge in the World.

You should try the Bahn north of Kiel, no traffic and properly fast being unrestricted.

Yep, Germany wasn't as entertaining as expected on the drive over. Lots of traffic and bad rain; though even heavy rain doesn't seem to stop the locals forcing through at +150.

Thanks for the tips. Might need to review the route for the journey back. :)
