New Member Just Thought I Would Say Hi

Really bad problem with my car.

Hi MBTECHNICIAN

I've got this really bad problem with my car and it's costing me a fortune, so far without any resolution, in fact no matter what I or my local dealer do it seems to get worse by the month.
Basically I've noticed that every 400-500 miles the little yellow light on the dashboard lights and to get the light to go out I have to go to the garage and add some special liquid into the flap on the rear wing. Every time I go this special liquid seems to cost me even more than before.

What can be done to stop this annoying light and the ever increasing cost?

Just thought I'd say hello...:)

Hi there ... welcome ... right .. here we go with my aches and pains then ... what do you think about the particularly low idle speed (about 700rpm) on the B180 CDI Autotronic .. that makes the car vibrate to the extent that it almost feels like its going to stall (and has once or twice !) ... is this a known fault, and is there a fix ? Also seems that when the exterior temp is above 30 degrees C, the idle speed increases to the extent (1000+rpm) that when you take your foot off the brake, the car shoots (rather than creeps!) forward ! Seems there is no happy middle ground - needs to be at about 850-900 I reckon to give a smoother start and idle - can it be sorted ?

Doens't sound like you have a problem at all. Try every 260-300 miles and 65-70 litres per refill of the special liquid!

Just checking to see if you could help on a long distance diagnosis! Had the car on Star yesterday and everything checked out fine. However, feeling that my car has been running rich lately, despite a new MAF, me and my friend took the reading but do not know what to check and how to go about things. The Coolant Temp was 187 Farenheit, RPMs were 710, MAF was at 443 against specified value of 188-228 and EGR was 3 against specified value of 35-75. Atmospheric Pressure was showing 998. Despite these numbers, the Star showed everything to be checking out o.k. My friend who owns a workshop facility here is not too quite familiar with the Star but I would really appreciate if you could share a thought on the above numbers and to guide me where to check for the problem.

Thanks,

Asif.

welcome to the forum... Believe me you'll be busy !!

As the forum now has an MB tech and a parts manager.
I reckon all we need now is a service manager and a sales exec !!! That should about answer all possibilities

Welcome and as Jay said a very nice addition to the MB maniacs that populate this forum. Between you and Jay may be we ought to create 2 new sections on the forum just for you two!!

Or try mine at 240miles!

Each of the values is mg per piston stroke. The intake air is registering high and the EGR low (I think). This will increase the fuelling.
If I've got this the right way round it sounds like the EGR is stuck closed.

Had the EGR actuated manually from the Star today and the value did come down to 300. This shows, that the EGR is working, and secondly, made us doubt that the Inlet Shut off valves may have gotten dislocated from the motorised arm thereby increasing the suction force through the MAF since the pistons would get their air drawn in anyway, either through the ports open in a less force full rush through the MAF or with the ports closed, use greater force to achieve the same volume. What do you all think??

Asif.
