Hi,
Looking forward to helpful discussions ... IF I buy the C270 CDI I fancy.
Trouble is, I'm getting cold feet!
Are these cars in any way reliable or am I just frightening myself to death reading about all the technical problems I can find?
John.

Relaible ...yes. The problem with forums is that you get a concentration on problems and start to believe your car will go wrong. It probably will not. But it, enjoy it. Ant problems we'll sort you out.

Any car may have problems, but proportionately very few in reality.

You will find things like this about any car if you trawl forums. There are a few things they are prone to like front suspension bushes but they are inexpensive to fix. Plus you wont see any difference from a 220 CDI to a 270 CDI, most things they are prone to will be the same for both.....I have had many different cars, last one was an Audi that seemed to need something every couple months. I am now on my third C270 CDI and i can say i have found them to be pretty bullit proof with barely any repair bills to speak of.....:thumb: Stop worrying and buy it!

Run for the hills...a Mackem has infiltrated our ranks:eek:

Seriously welcome to the forum, have a look about, but don't get scared about all of the problems you read, most are one offs.

Welcome to the forum.

As others have said their is nothing to worry about. C270's are great cars and are reliable. So just go for it and enjoy it. :thumb:

My C270 Worries and Your Replies.

RENAULT12TS, HORSESUITEDFOOL, CHATTONMILL, JAZZ, S500COLIN, WOBBLY AND BQF ...

Wow !! What a response and what a welcome - despite the fact I'm a "Mackem" !!

Thanks, chaps - I'm assuming you're all chaps, of course.

I've been advised to test drive the car from cold for about a 20 mile drive checking all gears are working on the Auto box - I'm assuming it's 5 speed.

It's a 6-year-old (54 plate) C270 Elegance SE CDI (What's SE mean?) so I think I'll have to check and see if all the gizmos are working too. I'll keep an ear out for suspension knocks and test for wobbly (there's that name again) braking at speed - if it's anything like my old C220 it'll probably be due a set of discs.

Thanks again, John.

New York, New York, so great they named it twice...

Emm... what's a Mackem?...:)

Them that come from Sunderland.......normally when that questions is asked it is in the form of 'Who are ya.....Who are ya'!
Well, I don't really want to get "off-message" and talk football (you know what I mean "Premiership Team?", "Six easy points for us next season" etc etc) so I'll take your Merc-based advice and not get too bothered about seeing the problems that can arise on this Forum.
Thanks for the welcome, John-the-Mackem.

You lost on Saturday? My friend was born in Sunderland. My daughter is about to graduate from there.

Thanks for the welcome, John-the-Mackem.

Cheers John, I will remind you of the six easy points bit next season!

Welcome to the forum and I must say you have good taste! I will back up the fact that the 270 is a bullet proof engine. SE means 'Special Equipment' and I am still not quite sure what that added considering the options list for Mercs is sooooo long!! I'm more an Avantgarde fan as I liked the Alu trim rather than the fake wood although my E Class is an Avantgarde with the Birds Eye Maple trim which I think is very classy!

You will not be disappointed with a 270 - I loved my C270 and was going for an E270 until the 320 I now have came up and I couldn't resist!

It's so easy to degenerate into football isn't it - especially now the barcodes have inherited our yo-yo :)
