E220CDI W210 Kombi 2000
Hi all,

This is my first post on this side.
I'm a male at the age of 50 and living in Holland.
About 3,5 years ago I bought my current car, a E220 CDI Combi from 2000.
The car had 230K km and I now have 373K km. I must say, those kilometers were driven without any serious problems at all, other than normal things like worn brakes, a broken spring and some rubber hoses and, of course, the rust problem.
Logically my appreciation for the car grew and I wonder if I will be able to
pass the 500K border with it.

I have some questions, though.
- I have to clean the EGR. Does anyone has tips on this? Is it sufficient to
clean just the EGR, or do I need to clean the whole intake manifold?
- My ignition switch needs to be replaced. Is this a job I can take care of myself, or is this one of those jobs the Merc. garage will have to do?
- Is it possible to turn off the sound it makes, when locking or unlocking the car remotely by pressing the key?

Regards,
Jurmic

Hello Jurmic, Welcome to the forum :thumb:. The 210 series was a great model, just a shame that they suffered rust so badly. Can't help with your tech questions I'm affraid, but I'm sure there will be someone along shortly with some answers.

Hello Jurmic, Welcome to the forum. When you clean the EGR you will be able to assess the state of the manifold, I pulled loads of soot out of mine with my hand but did not take it off because of the possibility of damage to the low pressure diesel pipes which run around it.
Had the ignition barrel changed on mine and they had to get a special tool from Germany to do it so I would doubt if you could do it yourself.
Mine does not beep when locking/unlocking so it should be possible but how you change it I do not know, perhaps you ask merc when checking on the ignition switch?

Good luck.
