NEW Mercedes-AMG C63 S vs BMW M3 vs Audi RS4 | Why hybrid’s spoiled the AMG C63

The bigger picture is simple, like generations before... the world is changing and we are getting older and older and more resistant to change.
We will all be gone and forgotten in a few years.

There’s no truer words been posted about this forum. Each and every new model/generation of car seems to get slated. Load of old grunters! 😁🤣☺️

Unless it's had a rebuild at power or straight 6,steer clear of any speed 6

Fantastic driving cars though.
Couldn't agree more. A friend of mine bought an ex-demo Tuscan S which spontaneously incinerated its cats in traffic (due to a problem upstream in the engine) - £8000 and 6 weeks without the car, meant he sold it almost immediately and bought an SLK55 instead :D

The Tuscan ended up back in Blackpool, as the factory was the only place at the time, who were authorised to split the engine block (or at least that's what TMS Melton Mowbray told him).

Would have a loved a Cerebra 4.5 myself, but just never fancied financial ruin

True........but the new one had been almost universally slated as way too heavy and lacking in the things that make an AMG an AMG. Id have any of the previous ones....but not that clumsy four pot hybrid monstrosity!

The car was never intended for those who dislike it. For new car buyers - especially company cars, either corporate or put through a business owner’s books - it will do OK with just 156 g/km CO2.

Comparing it to the used cars of the past isn’t really fair game, as they were developed with little by way of legislative constraints in relative terms, and go back far enough and there were none.

Comparing it to new cars of the present is fair, but the manufacturers forecast lifecycle of that model will determine the recipe they follow. Mercedes-AMG are going long on this one compared to their peers.

Comparing it to cars of the future - the cars it will compete with over the long term, many of which haven’t been released - and in relatively terms it will be considered emotional and engaging.

Not that long a term....it still won't be legal to sell after 2030....just like all the other ice cars.

Not quite. The latest C 63 AMG IS a hybrid, so unless there’s a legislative change, then it should be good until 2035 in the UK, so it could potentially be sold for around 12 years. Other markets will differ, and the C 63 is sold globally.

Your observation would be correct about the C 63’s ICE only peers which it’s being compared to, and hence a short-medium term play. The C 63 will likely go longer, or has the option to should it be required, and hence my comment.

I think that is only for hybrids with a 50 miles minimum pure electric range....the C63 can only do about 8.

Good news for good independents who'll be asked to keep classics (Inc petrol AMGs) alive and well for reminiscing old grunters

True, but my E400 isn't a 4 litre...
Badges are now just that

On a random EV related theme, I never understood why an AAA battery is 'less' than an 'AA' battery.
Some might Wiki or explain technically, but logic is defied

It's not just cars.....
I knew someone would pop up with 'the badge does not denote the CC ' thing ...they always do . there is not a car on the market that has 1999.3 cc or 1598.6 cc badge on the boot.

And I am fully aware that my C55 does not have a displacement of 5500cc.

And god help those who drive BMW's or rode Fantic motorcycles if they thought the badge on the thing told us the engine size . VW TS40 anyone ?

fabes. it's not about what the badge says. It's what it stands for .

C63 used to mean something.

PS , you didn't mention AAAA batteries.

C63 used to mean something
True.....but it never meant the capacity of a C63....or even any other AMG. It was just a historical reference to Mercedes first ever V8 in a passenger car...the M100 built in 1963...which was never used in any AMG. So you could argue that no AMG should ever have had the "63" badge. It was badge engineering from the off.

Not that long a term....it still won't be legal to sell after 2030....just like all the other ice cars.

As far as I'm aware, unless there's been a change, the prohibition of ICE cars will only apply to new ones - there will still be a secondhand market.

Of course.....we were referring to sales of new vehicles. I'm depending on sales of ICE vehicles on the used market for the foreseeable (I recon I'll hopefully need one for the next 30 years or so!)....because I'll never buy an EV (unless I get forced to by price or legislation) ......for no other reason they they are just not for me and I don't like the feel of them compared to ICE..

C63 used to mean something.
What did it mean to you? It means fastest and most powerful production C-class to me and it still does. The switch to becoming a hybrid hasn’t changed that, at least for me.

AMG are most associated with V8s because they have made so many of them over the last 20 years, however AMG have a rich history of I4, I6, V6 and V12 engines too.

The nature of the engines they produce has evolved over time, anticipating legislative, tax and market changes, and on the whole the resulting engines have been popular.

Maybe they’ll get it right this time, and the reaction to the hybrid I4 is a temporary thing just like when they introduced the M112K, M156, M157, and M177.

Do you guys remember how much slate the AMG got when it released the supercharged M113k back in 2002? And before it the C32?
The bimmer boys wouldn't stop, they just kept going on and on and on about "fake power"...

Ask me, I was one of them LOL

Bottom line.. they're all gonna follow Mercedes eventually. Trust me.

Biggest killer for me is the weight......nothing you can do will disguise that S Class-esque kerb weight.....cant beat physics.
