As I have now given up on the 4Matic conversion :o , I still needed a new Engine, but thought I would go for a 320 or 300-24. So I started my search again. After looking at some 320s the cheaper ones had done a million miles or had the dredded Loom problem..

So Finally found a 300E-24:bannana: the only one I could find for the sort of money I wanted to spend.... It is a 1992 300E-24 I think it is a sportline as I did a VIN check and it is listed as having a sports chassis is this Sportline?? Midnight Blue, mushroom leather, electric everything and air/con, its done 148K with full service history and still has MOT untill Jan I drove 200 miles this morning to get it..

The Engine is out of the Coupe and nearly ready to start the conversion I will update soon...:)

Well Mate, same as last time, you have my number :D Respect and its nice to see that someone else is as daft as me doing things like this in a drive  :bannana: :bannana:

Now about these seats (again:p )

Taking Loom out

Today I started taking the loom out of the 300E-24 disconecting it from the fuse box, relays, dash and other places really hard to get too...:) heres a few pics...

The old ECU and loom in process of being removed...:)

Just the sight of all those wires makes my blood run cold .....

Just love this. Wish I lived closer as I would be there Gratis helping. My sort of project.

More wiring today

Howard, its not really the wiring that worrys me it's the Vacume advane pipes they're every where..

And Ian I wish you were closer too I would be glad of the help..:) although I can't complain I am getting quite a bit of help from a good mate of mine who happens to be kind of a mechanic.

I got the loom out today :bannana: it didn't go to bad, I didn't break anything anyway :) below loads more pics...

I took the brake servo out here, to make it alot easier to get the loom out without damaging it. As you can see white lables on the wires..;)
IMG_0765.jpg

This is the passenger side the loom runs behind the bulk head, under the wiper mechanism, it is a bit fidally getting the loom through, putting it back in the coupe is going to be interesting.
IMG_0766.jpg

You can see in these pics the loom laid accross the engine Just checking that I didn't miss any plugs. There is a couple that disappear inside the car, there was plugs just the other side of the bulk head so not to tricky..

IMG_0768.jpg

This is what the loom looks like out the car..:D all in one piece
IMG_0772.jpg

And Here's a couple of the Engine with the loom removed.

IMG_0775.jpg

If all goes well tomorrow, the Engine should be coming out on Sunday :bannana: Swap the gearboxes and then hopfully start putting all back in the coupe early next week..:)

24Valve Engine is now out

At the weekend I got the old Loom out of the Coupe, Compared it to the old one, there were a few more wires going to the fuse box, but these appear to be air-con so shouldn't effect the running..:)
Oh and I had to trace a couple of wires on the 300E-24 So the dash had to come out..:o
Yesterday we started disconnecting the Exhaust manifolds and stuff ready to take the engine out...:)
Tonight the engine came out with no major problems, again we cut the front panle out...
Then once the engine was out we split the gearbox from the engine which was a bit of a nightmare.

This is the old Loom coming out, again with the servo removed, I will be changing the calipers too as the 300E-24 has BIG FOUR pots..:bannana:
IMG_0776.jpg

IMG_0778.jpg

The dash removed this was done to trace about 3 wires
IMG_0782.jpg

Front panle being cut away, it is alot easier to get the engine out this way..;)
IMG_0784.jpg

IMG_0786.jpg

Then we had a short brake, as you can see it is now dark, well we couldn't carry on without sausage and chips..

Crane hooked up and hoisting the lump out.
IMG_0787.jpg

IMG_0789.jpg

This Engine was a touch wider than the other one, so another little mod to the front panle was required..:o
IMG_0792.jpg

With the Engine still on the hoist we split the gearbox from the block.
IMG_0791.jpg

IMG_0790.jpg

I will gunk the engine and maybe a splash of paint here and there before it goes in the Coupe..:)

Let me know what you think so far and any suggestions welcome;) .. Thanks for looking, will update again soon..
