Thought I’d update this thread ...
One week in and I’ve driven 1500 odd miles including a 1100 mile round trip to France, with 550 miles in one day on the way back.
It feels a bit sluggish in E mode but … if you check the speedo turns out its not. Stick it in S mode and it flies. Proper thumping overtaking power between 60 and 80 mph. That’s why I always end up buying a 3 litre Mercs over the 4 pots.
Mine has the comfort suspension option and as its a SB it has air on the rear as standard. This makes it a very comfortable drive, the first time I threw it into a long sweeping bend I felt slightly worried but it was actually very composed.
Tyres are very noisy on some road surfaces but its also virtually silent inside at 80mph on smooth French motorways.
As a long distance crusier its sublime - I drove 300 odd miles in 5 hours and it was effortless.
Round town you get used to the size of it quite quickly - it very slightly bigger than our E320 cdi Estate.
The boot is huge despite the slope of the roof - and I managed to pick up full set of genuine Merc rubber floor mats and the boot liner on Ebay for £45!
But ... the real treat is the headlights - they are so smart. I keep looking for excuses to drive it in the dark.
Niggles …. the doors are small - I did know this before I bought it - It’s a bit of a skill to get in and out if you are over 6 foot without looking like a contortionist.
So I now have a very sensible, practical, family car on the inside that looks like a ballsy, executive coupe on the outside.
Average 42.8 mpg on the run to France - driving at speed limits - either 60, 70 or 80mph. Diesel only 79p a litre in France - which is nice! My short trip, round town MPG seems to be about 33 so pretty happy with that.
So far so good ...
