Thats bad news the car not being as described,
it happened to me once in auto trader, the car was described as immaculate.
i phoned first as it was 85 miles away.when i got there i thought he had one for spares,
on his drive, but is was the car he was selling.
after a quiet word in his ear he did pay for my fuel and for wasting my time.
you did the right thing,if it does not fell right walk away.

well that was fun whilst it lasted ........

The search goes on.......

That's a shame Andy,That happened to me recently, looking for a replacement caravan ,went to see a swift challenger twin axle described as immaculate condition, it had big holes in the sides (looked like someone whacked it with a hammer) filled with clear silicon sealant. Hope you find something soon.

Sorry to hear the story Andy but as others have said it's better to wait and get the car you really want.
Walking away was definitely the right thing to do.

Ian and I won a V8 SE back in June and the seller flatly refused to answer any emails (still hasn't) We did get another but at more than twice the price. I'm taking Alfies advice and waiting 89 days.

Ebay is great when it works right, but a pain when it some idiot makes sure it doesn't

sorry to hear it went wrong dude :(

am i not right in saying your better going for the 3L 12v anyways ;) just trying to take a positive out of a negative

nah the 12 valve is 50 bhp down on the 24 valve :)

I'm still looking and I'm going to see a 320 tomorrow - once again, the description sounds good and the price is (about) right.

Andy

well, one door closes etc, went to look at the above mentioned 320 - described as "mint" in the ad and "with virtually no marks" on the phone. So when i arrived at the guys house to see that the car was at least 4 slightly different colours, every panel had little supermarlket dings, the front wing looked as though it had been keyed and badly repainted, the wheels had chunks missing out of them (to be fair he did say there was a "little" kerb damage). The interior faired little better. The so called leather interior was in fact aftermarket seat covers which were hiding a sort of biscuit coloured cloth which was almost black with dirt was worn through on the drivers seat (as normal) and torn in the back.

I pointed out the list of faults and he said I was being picky and it's what I should expect from a 12 year old car. I kind of agreed but pointed out to him that had he been honest about the faults it could have saved us both the time we had wasted - then he got stroppy saying "are you calling me a time waster? you are the one not buying my f***ing car!!!". I walked away showing remarkable restraint :)

However, on a slightly lighter note, I agreed a very good price on a 1995 320TE last night. The guy had sent me hi res pics of every panel on the car and described every known fault - all of which seem relatively simple to deal with. Hopefully I get to collect it on Friday but Monday is more likely. It's 200 miles away so I'm looking forward to the drive home :)

see above Howard - barring any total and utter catastrophes the deal is done. We agreed the price last night based on the photos he has sent and unless anything is radically different when I go up there then the car is mine.

I had to stay calm, Annie and our nine year old son were both with me - however when I go to see him later and reply in person to the abusive email he sent me about 2 minutes ago I'll be on my own :)

I would not bother hitting him just pop his email up on a few gay contact sites and let him get bombarded with all sorts of unholy crap till he changes his address :D
