1993 W124 300D
Just purchased a 1993 300D at the weekend :bannana: . White, auto, 108,000 miles young. I'm amazed at the smooth shift and comfortable ride for such an old car... does not feel like a 15 year old 2 tonne car! Previously been a BMW fan (can i say that on here!?) but so far so good for the old Merc!

Well done and welcome aboard the forum. Good choice of vehicular transport....only problem is it will be a few more miles till your engine is properly run in ;)

As for mentioning the other marque you will find a few other forum members whom have seen the light.

have a nana for choosing a 124 :bannana:

Well done, a very sensible purchase, as I'm sure everyone else here will agree.

I've finally got my father into a W124 230TE, borrowed it a few weekends ago to do a bit of load lugging, I agree doesn't feel like a car constructed in 1990.

Thanks, guys. Paid £900, service booklet lost but mileage checked out. New exhaust, brake lines, fuel filter and oil change done in last 5 months :)

Only problem is a slight leak from radiator  see tech section.

Great car, well done! :) Looks good:cool:

May I wish you many happy miles! :D

Bargain.

Get rid of the chrome wheel arches and fit some AMG's and It will be a looker.

Agree with losing the chrome arches!

8 months with mine and I haven't regretted a second. I was surprised how smooth the ride is, better than I remember my w126 300SE drove.

Check-out the biodiesel thread, lots of info on there on running veg-oil.

Welcome to the club!

And it's a welcome from me 2! Being the owner of a 124 estate myself, mine has just run in at 200k :D. So pleased you have come from the dark side and purchased a quality mode of transport!

Top work - but yes! do remove the chrome wheel arches immediately if not sooner! LOL  ;)

We all know a man who would simply lurve to work on your 124! Mr Walker - where are you??

Hi Don

Another white w124 owner !! we get some stick on here but it's 'cos they are jealous ....

Before you remove the arches , have a stiff drink , as they are commonly used to hide rust , which is a weak spot of the w124 arches .... :( there may be a nasty surprise lurking....

People put them on to cover up the rust , usually to sell the car ... ;)

Anyway , looks like a nice car , a set of AMG II's and you'll be away .... ( or any alloys for that matter ) ...

white is the new black..... it's coming back into style.... look how many new cars are appearing in white ;)

i quite like the chrome  , kinda retro-cool.... looks way better than rust :D

White is NICE! I like it, but Dan beat me to the white Coupe :(

I have to make do with black :D

Moi? I am here and looking at a nice 124 :). Welcome to the marque that matters, especially 124's which rock :rock:

I have suggested this before but it wouldn't look terrible if the chrome arches were simply painted body colour :)

Welcome to the forum btw :)

I'd either leave the arches as they are, or go full out and fit a new pair of front wings etc.

It'd be sensible in the long run - I think you got a good bargain there for £900 , your car should hold it's value or may even increase if you look after it well ;)

PS - welcome too :)

Will

Hello and welcome to the forum from me. A nice W124 there, how about an avantgarde grill its a nice cheap mod that makes all the difference. Maybe a set of clear front indicators and facelift rear smoked lenses might be a thought too.

Welcome to the forum..... nice looking car.... i had to have two new arches as there was a little rust...... £27.50 EACH from German Sweedish and French ( GSF ). Good to have you on board

Welcome to the forum, another person with taste:D !

that seems quite reasonable, might look into it. I had a look under the chrome and there does not appear to be any noticable rust, yet.......
