E350 Estate (W212 Facelift)
I've finally got my E350 Estate, my first MB and so far I'm pretty impressed. But there are a few things I'm used to from previous cars and having read the manual, I can't see if the option is there - either self selected or by getting the dealer to code it. So please tell me:

Door Unlocking - One click for drivers door, second click all doors. I've had this for the last 15 years, how do I get it on my car?

Going Home Lights - get out of the car and the lights drop immedaitely to low level, then fade as soon as you plip the key to lock. Is there any way to get them brighter/longer?
Auto Parking - drive past a space, arrow lights up, press okay and it parks. Er, no. I've just driven around a car park for 15 minutes and it ain't playing ball. This afternoon I tried to get it to parallel park and had as much success as with the ladies when I had zits - none at all. I'm sure I can get lessons when I go back to the dealer in a couple of weeks for my free valet, but can anyone explain it in idiot language for me?
Mirrors - do MB have an option to drop the passenger side mirror when reverse is engaged? It feels all wrong to have to press the buttons and do it manually but I'm sure I'll get used to it with time.
Thanks chaps.

Hold the lock and unlock buttons down together on the key until the red led flashes. Now the key will work the way you want.

Look in the "Settings" menu in the instrument cluster then select "Lighting" and turn on Surround Lighting

Dunno, only have "Park Assist" on mine that tells you which way to turn the wheel...

Only possible if you have memory seats (which it sounds like you may not).

It does work trust me, may be the space you selected wasn't large enough??
Once you found the space, and select reverse, it'll ask you do you want park assist? You press ok, let go the steering wheel, but cover the brake pedal to modulate its reversing speed.
I have done that a few times, it parked itself perfectly :thumb:

Thanks a million for the quick replies. Here's the update:

Locking - now changed and working fine.

Lights - already set to on, so it looks like I've got as good as it gets unless something can be changed in the coding. Maybe I need to walk faster.

Auto Park - I've spotted in the fine print that to find a space on the drivers side space you have to have the indicators on, so I'll try that tommorrow. I've also spotted that it won't work perpendicular unless the space is 1m wider than the car, so a standard UK space might be a problem. I'll also remember to put it in reverse to get past the arrows stage, which might be part of my failure so far. Thanks for clearing the fog fo rme.

Mirrors - Nope, I don't have the memory seats. I got the dynamic massage seats instead which are terrific! I'll know for next time though.

And another couple of questions...

They just keep popping into my head:

Service Book - it's the first car where I've not received a service record book when I collected it. Just a service manual, that says what and when. So, no first PDI record, no VIN/options codes, nothing to get stamped in future years. Is it all electronic now, and how is it all affected if I have Indy service? Do I really not get a service book?

MB Recovery - the salesman told me that recovery doesn't last the usual 1 year. It is lifetime, anywhere in Europe, providing I have regular MB dealer servicing. What a deal! But like anything that sounds too good to be true, I'm wondering if that's what it is. Is it really true, can I cancel my RAC subscription?

Ask a dealer for the Oasis report - lots of factory order/build/logistics dates and build spec including the options fitted list.

I believe I have the Oasis report, after looking at the MB owners website and finding the info for my VIN number incomplete.

But it's the service book issue that I'm more exercised about. I obviously don't want to turn up for a first service and have them ask where's my book for stamping. Worse, I don't want a problem in 5 years when I come to sell.

They will have your record digitally - they won't ask for the service book as there isn't one.

Come sale time, produce the service sheet printouts that you've asked the dealer for.

Another way is to get a duplicate service book (they have the word duplicate stamped throughout) and transfer the service sheet info yourself.

I think it looks a bit naff though.

Some people have had good service from Mobilo, whereas others think it's not worth the paper it's written on.

If you do stick with it, make sure your services are early or on time; I had a W220 with full Mercedes history yet Mercedes said that because one of the services was out by circa 1500 miles, Mobilo wasn't available to me.

How ridiculous. The bean counters really have taken over :(

Buy a duplicate service book and just ask the dealers to stamp for the services. That's what I did with my last S211. You may find a bit of resistance to doing it, but they can't really refuse. Make sure you keep the electronic service record sheets as well.
