Hi
My name is Shan and I'm new member to the Mercedes community. I ordered myself a new white w205 C250 AMG with the 19in wheel option, which I've had since February this year.

I've always been a BMW driver and still have a 330Ci as my weekend toy, but like this c class as a daily driver and motorway cruiser.

It's been into the dealer twice now for screen rattle fix, window wind noise issue and replacement of the 6 command buttons which were very soft.

However, above all the minor niggles, the one thing that annoys me most is the lag in the gearbox when trying to get away from a standstill swiftly. It's as if the gearbox is taking time to think before putting the power down. It's been in for software upgrades but has made no improvement. I've driven an E250 cdi pre face lift model which wasn't like this.

Does anyone know how this can be fixed?

I can't say I've noticed this with mine. I had an old E55 AMG which had a gearbox which was a nightmare but they've come on a long way since then.

Is there another owner in your area that you could get in your car or you get in theirs? Or maybe get the dealer to drive it with you in?

My W204 does that when I am sitting at a stand with it in neutral and then put it in drive. Dealer said it was normal with the pressure building up in the gear box. If I want to pull away quickly I leave it in drive.

Have to say that the auto start system is very good indeed. When I stop at the lights, foot on brake, the engine stops. When I release the brake it starts very quickly and is able to move off without delay.

If it's an extended stop I'll put it into Park and bring my foot off the brake. To move off I press the brake again, move the lever to Drive, the engine catches and it's off.

From watching some Mercedes videos, I believe that there is an electric pump which supplies hydraulic pressure to the gearbox as the engine is in this off/standby mode.

I often wonder what kind of starter mechanism it employs actually - it doesn't sound like the regular starter motors we're all accustomed to especially with the speed it turns and catches.

For an extended stop, especially if you need to 'get away quickly' have you tried pressing the parking brake (near your right knee) but leaving it in D? You can then just hit the gas when you need to set off - no need to press the parking brake button again.

Also, are you aware you can quickly 'pump' the brake pedal which will hold the car (you will get a 'hold' at the bottom on your multi function screen) This is ideal at traffic lights, stop/go traffic and roundabouts where you need to stop for brief periods and want to give your right foot a rest. Again, you can just tap the gas when you want to go.

For both of the above stop/start will kick on assuming it's enable and you have sufficient charge.

Yeh - but that uses fuel, there's constant 'drive' through the transmission when the engine is idling. Not too bad if you're only there a few seconds but as I say for extended stops not so good.

I didn't know this, I'll try it. Do you mean brake on then quickly off x2?

No, push the pedal hard down, the start/stop will kick in, the Hold function will keep the car stationary and you can cover the accelarator ready to go.

Have you tried it in sport mode as economy mode is the default? Sport mode will pull away in first gear not second as in economy mode.

Noticed the same slow start issue only after reading this thread. Ie putting into neutral at lights then trying to set off. it's only been a real issue around this time of year as the engine doesnt always cut out in cold weather at the lights. Most times of the year the engine cuts out soon as I brake, and before I press hard to use the hold functions.

I guess the issue is for saving fuel... so most times the stop start is good enough, but I get the point about the very slow start when the engine is on, and putting the car into drive from neutral.

Well that's the issue. From neutral to drive always has lag. You need to anticipate the lights, drop it into drive with the brake on, then it's ready after a second or so.
Must be a restriction of all autos, I've never seen anything else.

My W204 C250 CDI didn't seem to have any delay (assuming start/stop hadn't kicked in). Throttle response was good, if anything it was the rear wheels failing get to grip that gave me bigger issues getting away briskly.

James.
