Im having a rethink over my entire motoring MO

I love the SL55 and I am surprised I like a 7 year old car so much because Im a fussy bugger where it all has to be A1 perfect and as such the Mrs isnt getting a look in

Im fed up with the Jag - yes its a decent car but I find it unloveable (if you have unloved a car you will know what I mean)

Thing is swapping the Jag will cost in cold hard cash £20k for one years use, less if I keep it longer as the depreciation curve will plateau.

The Jag is much easier to live with than the SL, easy sat nav, DAB radio (wow and essential), easy phone use (SL also easy but not AS easy), as under factory warranty I have no driver anxiety you get with any out or warranty or even 3rd party warranty car. If I have to go anywhere that requires thinking or unknown parking I take the Jag.

So I have a mid life crisis in reverse and I want a 4*4 BUT I dont think I want to spend £50k on a RR or a ML I think I want to buy this
J Stuart & Co LTD : VOLKSWAGEN TOUAREG 5.0 V10 TDI 5DR AUTO [MASSIVE SPEC]
Its really well built is in fine order and has a recent £5k  main deler bill for a service, new turbos and gbox fix mostly covered by Warranty Direct (Impressed)

Phone kit is flaky but a V10 TDi for this money - is it a no brainer ? I think so - someone talk me out of it (or further into it)

Diesel useage makes no odds as this will replace the Jag at 5000 miles p/a and I realise I may never be able to sell it ever again :D

Sorry Dave, I had to check - did you post this on April 1 and it got delayed in the post?

Go get yourself a new shape CLS63 on order and be happy - turbo V8 and the nice new interior, the outside will grow on you (I've seen a couple now).

Or if you really want a 4x4 then it would be an RR or a Cayenne for me I'm afraid. The only thing the Toerag has going for it is that engine and the fact it can never lose more than 13 grand.

I got the pre recession blues (twang twang),
"woke up one morning the UK was shut", - coming to a town near you in 6 / 12 months

I like the Toerag (great name for it Tim) engine, I like the fact its £13k (but can lose more if it fails), I just like the thought of such an engine for so little (Im betraying my religion here lol)

Dave

You are not being daft. The Daddy Golf is a brilliant car - one I would have in a heartbeat.

As an owner of a 2003 S500, luxury motoring on beer money can be attained and give you all the pleasure of the car without the threat of a huge financial loss via depreciation.

You'd lose nearly £13k on a brand new V10 Touareg the minute you drove it off the forecourt.

Not fancy my Q7 Dave? That 4.2 v8 diesel is soooo sweet. Am desperate to sell now for a lot less than it's worth.

I would love the toerag. I have been eyeing them up for a few years now.

Have you seen the advert where they filled one full of sand, added a heavier duty transmission and towed a 747 about 10 metres?

I don't think it will lose much to depreciation, it has to be near the bottom of its curve.

I think before you buy anything you really need to think about what you're looking for in a car.

Going from an XFR to Touareg makes no sense to me - 2 totally different cars.

I just checked, it was standard transmission, but 4.5 tons of sand, over inflated tyres and heavy duty springs.

Or if you really want a 4x4 then it would be an RR or a Cayenne for me I'm afraid...

Isn't the Toerag and Cayenne the same thing except that the V10 diesel is better than a V8 non-turbo petrol and it has already depreciated because it doesn't have a Porsche badge?

The Cayenne is a Toerag with improved chassis dynamics, a nicer interior, an attempt at porschefying the styling and the option of a very very fast turbo petrol V8.

Having looked at Dave's history of cars, can you imagine a diesel 4x4 being anything other than a reason to get an exec taxi to work every morning instead of driving it?

Ahh, but I think his point is it'll be cheap motoring compared to the Jag, more fun too. You won't get a Cayenne turbo for 13k.

I'm preparing a rational reason for the Toerag,
I may need more time BUT i have found a
Nicer one in Liverpool I will check out Sunday.
Regardless of car I fancy some depreciation free motoring to get me through the next year on the basis there may be some huge bargains in the near future.
Edited to add I like large engines and I like torque :-)

I had one and thought it was brilliant, only the 2.5 tdi though:o

I also had a V10 for a week and it was much better than you can imagine, even the engine has a unique sound to it when accelerating, very addictive. I would have one at the drop of a hat when I next need a 4x4.

It will I'm sure surprise you in a good way if you get one, oh! and the Toureg forums are every bit as good as this one...well possibly anyway...:o

Mark.

That V10 diesel engine needs to be driven to be believed..

I have driven it in both the Toerag and Pheaton and it is brilliant. The torque feels like someone is punching you in the back it's that powerful.
Why they never put it in the Porsche or Q7 seems a rather bizarre choice; put the best engine in the cheapest of the 3 'brothers'

^ didn't it tow plane on top gear?

Buy it, your not going to lose £13K a year so your £7k better off than having the Jag for just one year !!!

OK on sunday this car dealer
USED VOLKSWAGEN TOUAREG 5.0 V10 TDI Altitude [DPF] Auto for sale in Liverpool, Lancashire (Ref. 89103577)
is going to be asked to take a XFR against the Toerag - should be an interesting morning lol
I can justify the 06 car being £5k more with a lot less miles IF its in great condition and Im told its mint

Coincidently I went on a Bajan golf trip with the owner of this garage and 20 other blokes about 10 years ago (maybe more), amongst the group was a Gladiator called Warrior who was arrested just after we returned. The owner doesnt know its me coming on sunday so apart from a weird part ex he will get all our yesterdays as well - lifes rarely dull.

And i have just found

BO55 DST and V10 DST on DVLA - cant believe I have spent 3 hours trawling for a cheapish plate for a car I dont own and shouldnt buy.

(DST is the company I work for)

DS
If you want that engine in something even rarer:

Volkswagen : VOLKSWAGEN PHAETON 5.0 V10 TDI 4MOTION L (5 Seat)

I wouldn't care it looks like a big Passat, you hardly see any on the roads, a real understated excellent car, almost like Mercedes used to be!
