I saw a rather nice W140 CL600 today. Clean, tidy, looked like new.

Except the wheels, a nice set of proper AMG wheels, which had been kerbed beyond belief, and the tyres where equally dire, bits missing from the side walls, reinforcement showing, kerbing strips shorn off. All 4 wheels!

No point to this post, just slightly regretful someone can't parallel park.

Bmw drivers are probably keener in driving than we are, hence driving a more driver involving car, I doubt they can't park. I do realise they drive more 'enthusiasticaly' on the roads so attract the wrong kind of attention.

The comment was intended as a joke, but as I do respect their brand and enjoy driving BMWs in my family back home, I think we are heavy handed on them most times.

On my e240 though I did get it with kerbing on the wheels, but I have added a bit on the passenger front.

Quite, but I'm sure they still call Mercs unreliable rust buckets.
We are only having a bit of fun at the Bavarian's expense.

Very interesting comment.

With my discussion with strathclyde police over my complaint the officer who used to work traffic felt she prefered the Mercedes as in her experience she felt they "could be driven around corners a lot faster than the BMWs"...

The comment struck true today, I was following a E46 320d msport today on the back road to work, he overtook on the urban dual carriageway, sped off, I followed and caught up with him, and he couldnt shake me in the more bendy parts of the road.

The ultimate driving machine being reigned in by the larger softer comfortable grandad car? Not so sure.

More involving, again not so sure, 211 has a nice feeling to drive, needs a steering rack that offers a better level of feedback and a "better steering wheel" but so can most large cars.

Could just be the driver is less competent in the twisty bits. A more confident driver may well have left you?

Just to add a note I have owned 2 BMWs a 3 series and 5 series
And it was intended as a joke Although I must add a lot of younger BMW drivers bring bad "press" onto themselves Probably because a BMW is their first affordable decent marque and driving it like they have just nicked it is okay

He was going a lot faster than I normally go on that road to be fair and was probably the manner he drives, was a man in his 40s so a much more experienced and I would have thought proficient wheel man than me.

I've had the car a fair time so am confident with it, perhaps he is not so confident with his car, it may be new to him.

For those of us over a certain age, parallel parking wasn't part of the test :D

I'm no spring chicken, it was in mine:)

My experience (and bruised rims) suggest to me parking until the wheels spark is the territory of drivers of one particular sex.....

Oooh, a dangerous one, especially on Valentine's day - we're supposed to be sweetness and light today

.

age does not a competant driver make. (I present Tiff Needel as a case in point. A mediocre driver and despite years of racing and training, still raised himself up the ladder to the dizzy heights of mediocre driver at the end)

You either have it, or you haven't.

experince may suggest that he was either driving within his limits, and as such you were able to keep up as both you and your car were within theirs too.

Or he was on the limit of his ability on an unknown road and therefore driving to get to his destination as fast has he was comfortable with and as it was a BMW he would not know the rear view mirror existed and had no knowledge of you trying to get passed him, hence why you were blocked by this ungrateful gent.:D

Now I feel really old...when people who are presumably a fair bit younger than me describe themselves as 'no spring chicken'....oh well, off to give the old zimmer it's weekly clean and polish...

Wonderful stuff, that Zimmolene.

(So I'm told) innit.

I'm nearly at the stage where police don't just look young, I'm surprised their parents aren't with them...
