Noisy lights

What could be causing the horrible noise I'm getting when I switch my lights on? It did this a couple of years ago one time then stopped but happened again last night

lol I'm not sure how I describe a noise. As I turn the light switch to on, its like I'm turning on a sort of droning, slightly dull whiney sound that stays on while the lights are on. When I turn the lights off the sound stops but a second or two behind the switch. Kind of like you were turning on a spinning air raid warning thing that had to power down but not that loud. I'm not sure where its coming from - maybe the switch area or everywhere and nowhere baby ...

I was speaking to Ian Walker last night and he suggested it might be the vacuum pipes, ie what I'd be hearing would be the pump.

I didn't have the car with me for him to check but I think he's probably right.

I'll get it sorted at the next service.
