Noisy ML drivetrain

ML 270Cdi, at reaching crusing speed after some hard acceleration, say after pulling out of a juction into a gap into 40mph traffic, the drive train seems to quietly rumble and groan with a slight vibration, and continues to do so for quite a while, but after stopping and starting it dissapears, 53 reg, 105,000 miles, four months out of warranty

, its something that its always done, but seems to have become more apparent lately, just wondering if its time to part company sooner than later?

We had something similar on one occasion before Christmas. Had to pull out into traffic and had to accelerate hard. The best was I can describe it was there was a whine very very similar to the noise Postman Pat's van makes - but louder. Wife and I looked at each other in horror.

Definitely transmission as no noise when stationary, even if revving engine, pull away and the whine starts - faster you go, the louder and higher pitch the whine.

Took it steady home. Stopped and started and and problem still there. Pleaded with dealer on the phone to take a look straight away. Jumped in and started it - now back to normal, but took it to dealer anyway. Dealer took it for a right good thrashing and absolutely no sign of it.

Does it sound similar? I would love to know what caused it.

I was glad I took out Service Plus as I was listening too it!! I have it in writing that four wheel drive system and auto transmission is covered so hopefully if there's a problem, then it will be covered. Fingers crossed.
