I have a 2002 320 clk cabriolet and the phone is a factory fitted Nokia RTE-4HB or Nokia 6091 MB (i think they are the same ) The phone does not want to log on to the network and shows the message no network you can try manually or automatically to find the network but to no avail The radio recognises the telephone and also the steering wheel controls as you can select the telephone address book etc you just cannot make or receive calls
ANY help would be greatly appreciated especially DIESEL or RICHARD
thanks

I could not find info about this model from the Nokia web site, I guess too old for their support site but according to this site, the phone is a single band GSM 900 product (I guess the phone is older than from 2002, at that time phones should have been dual band products already).

http://www.nokiamuseum.com/view.php?model=6091 MB

Are you using it on a network that supports GSM900 frequencies on your area (3 excluded definitely but there used to be a DCS 1800 or GSM 1800 operator in the UK, I'm not sure if they now have PGSM 900 assigned, this phone does not support GSM 900 extension band, E-GSM900 anyway)?

If you try manual network search from the phone, do you get any networks shown (you can only attach to your home network but all available networks that the phone supports should be shown)?

Of course it could be a hardware issue, the antenna or the actual phone transceiver etc.

Diesel Benz thanks for the reply Please can I ask you where the aerial for the phone is located and also the control module for the phone I would like to see if it is something simple like a loose connection to the aerial would it log a fault if I took it to a technician and had them hook it up to the computer
Thanks

Assuming this is not a cabrio, isn't the phone antenna at the top of the roof? If you find the transceiver unit, you can try a different antenna. The transceiver is probably at the left side of the trunk, if not at the trunk floor behind the rear seat.

Can you confirm that you have a valid SIM card inserted and for which network is it?

Diesel Benz it is a cabriolet so the ariel is on the left rear under the floor in the boot is the spare wheel with the subwoofer on top and I do not think that there is anything behind the rear seats except the boot/folding space for the roof. Is there an amplifier for the phone aerial and if so where could that be located I have taken the panel off on the left rear of the boot where the tail lights are and there are two wires going into the aerial one is the aerial and the other says TV but i do not have command and therefore no tv The network is vodaphone which I am told operates on the 900mhz network the sim was working two weeks ago as I made a call from the phone.
Thanks for your patience and response

Could you post or PM your VIN to allow us to be sure which car it is and which phone kit would be installed (or do you know the option code?)?

Have you removed the panel behind the rear seat and the trunk floor panel? I had a quick look at documents and at least one phone option had the control unit at the floor on a C208 and behind the rear seat on the A208.

I don't think you have any antenna amplifier or "antenna cable loss compensator" which usually exists only for the 1800 MHz frequency band. The antenna at the rear fender is a combinational antenna, at least for the radio and the phone. There is a splitter which could have an amplifier for the radio too.

Is this car new to you? Has the phone been working previously? At least good to know that it cannot be an issue with the SIM card.

The VIN number is WDB 2084652T107491 Yes the car I have owned from new and the phone was working previously I last used the phone approximately two weeks ago because I always see the telephone icon on the radio I assumed it was working only when I went to use it did I realise it was not working and further investigation revealed that it could not connect to the network I think there is an amplifier on the radio not sure about the e- compensator It is a cabriolet and the only thing in the boot is the spare wheel with what looks like the amplifier for the radio on top of the spare wheel I have looked behind the panel on the left hand side (pulled back the carpeting) and the aerial has two wires going in to it one says radio the other tv but I do not have a tv in the car
Thanks again for your help

OK, you seem to have the "853" phone option. I did find the wiring diagram, I could email it to you but probably cannot send PM yet).

At this point I did not find the exact location for the transceiver. Detali EPC shows the part a bit differently from the current EPC but the part is #460 here:

WIS did not have "remove/install" instructions for this part, or at least I did not find it.

You could follow the antenna cable, the transceiver cannot be too far from the antenna (there is no compensator in this setup).

If the phone has been working fine so far and even at this point no service is the "only" issue, it does sound like something from the antenna towards the actual transceiver part within the phone. You might try another antenna attached to the phone too.

Diesel Benz thank you I have looked for the 'e-compensator' but cannot find anything I did find the antenae and it had what looked like a splitter on it with one wire for the radio and the other for the telephone and a small 12 volt wire in the middle I checked for loose connections etc but could not find anything visually loose if it was the amplifier where would that be situated please email [email protected]
i am gettin very frustrated with this
thank you for your assistance so far

Hi, first I would suggest you to delete our email address from the previous post (to avoid spam robots reading it) unless you want to wait for assistance from others at the forum.

I believe I found one document about the A35/13 control unit location, looks like it is under the rear seat actually. I've sent some documents by email to you.

Hi

There is no E-Net compensator because that was an addition for GSM1800 ("E net" in Germany) and that system is GSM900 only. As a matter of interest only. MB have stopped fitting the E-Net compensator - I presume there is good enough GSM1800Mhz cover that it was a suitable "cost saving" reduction that no one notices.

Control unit could be behind carpet on left hand side in boot or under the rear seat as Diesel says.

Pretty sure the antennas are in the rear bumper (clipped into the inside of the bumper, one on each side) on cabrios - thats where they went on the R129 SL also. (Although EPCnet is silent on this for option 853)

If that device you found is the antenna splitter, make sure there is 12v on the blue wire when ignition&radio on - if the coaxes are male/female then you could also bypass it just for the phone to check if that is at fault

I hope that helps.

Cheers

Richard
