Norfolk can be exotic

I'm from Norfolk, was out for a drive today in Gorleston (on the coast next to Gt. Yarmouth) and long story short, saw a Lamborghini Murcielago being driven through the town centre which then stopped in a pub car park. I pulled into the pub car park a few minutes later and started chatting with the Lambo owner (Steve) who allowed me to take some pics. (I'm in the carbon-fibre business and we started chatting about cars in general, he owns one or two exotic cars, one type who we make carbon parts for).

A few pics, which kind of emphasise how low and wide a car like a Murcielago is, in comparison to a normal road car like a C-Class Mercedes Coupe.

V. Early one that is.

Im not sure if its the black/Orange colour scheme on the wheels, but those wheels look comically small on it.

Perhaps it proves that unnecessarily large wheels give no handling or grip benefit.

How would he get bigger wheels? They wouldn't fit in the wheel arches.

It's all an optical illusion....

Yep, it's the orange stripe, however they are 18s an larger would be possible...

YugGuy, they are 335 section already at the rear, so i don't see your point :)

He was suggesting diameter as opposed to width.

There's a reason F1 cars run 13" wheels rather than 18" with rubber bands.

Because those are the regulations. And as such the suspension is more rigid with flexibility built into the tyres.

Many of the F1 teams want to move to much larger wheels with rubber band tyres. They can do just as good a job with that configuration. Wheels can be made lighter than tyres, so you can reduce the unsprung mass with larger wheels and lower profiled tyres.

So, not really a valid point as you can make either compliant to whatever you want the overall ride to be..

I didn't realise that, I've just read a few articles and it seems cost is the biggest factor as it would require a complete redesign and therefore a complete rewrite of the regulations.

Yep, that is the major hold back on the regulations changing. There would need to be enough lead time to be able to redesign the cars as it would be hugely impacting on time needed.

There was talk of it being in 2018, but they already agreed major changes for 2017 and this was then deemed at step to far again.

I wouldn't want to drive that on the A149 through Stiffkey on a Sunny Sunday.

But Norfolk is exotic!;)
I no longer live there but few would deny that is the county with the least rainfall in the country...and one of the flatest:o
Not sure if Lotus cars are 'exotic' but I did build a few of these whilst I was there!
Properly exotic!:thumb:

It must be exotic given the high fingers to hands ratio.

Quite often see that car being driven around north east norfolk on the coast roads and around the broads.

There are quite a few quite exotic cars these days as more of the coast becomes holiday home destinations for the wealthy.

I suppose Anne Boleyn was a Norfolk Lass, but that didn't put Henry VIII off! (She was famously reputed to have extra fingers/toes.)

Didn't she end up missing a head though?
