Recently my engine has been running quite warm nearly 90 C in the cold weather (Zero to 2 C) and now its a bit warmer (5 to 10 c) its running cooler - just over 80 c and I mean just over and doesn't budge

I assume anywhere just over 80 c is perfect???? Over 90 c is not so good?

Ok or am I going paranoid in my old age

I get like this... im not sure really, id just keep an eye on it :)

check the oil cap, and little tell tail signs of head gasket just to put your mind at ease

Hi John just over 80c is fine mine goes to just over 80c i would class that as normal i think you are a bit paranoid john nothing wrong in that mate :thumb:

IIRC the thermostats fitted to most MB's are actually set for fully open @ 92c. Most of our cars seem to run somewhere between 80-85c....

As above, not sure on the specific rating for the thermostat in the M113/AMG V8 but most MB thermostats I've seen are rated at somewhere around 87c or thereabouts, 80-90c isn't anywhere near 'overheating' :)
