North Yorkshire: Motorist speeds off in car moments after being banned from driving

Jason Ryder, 45, was convicted of drug driving and was disqualified for 12 months when he appeared at Harrogate Magistrates Court in March. But as soon as he left court, he stepped into a car and drove off at speeds of up to 145mph, forcing police into a dramatic pursuit.

The last stretch of A road before he got caught is very dangerous to drive at speed. It's a 60 mph road mostly but I struggle over 40 mph due to bumpy off camber and unsighted bends with high hedges then you approach 30 mph villages at intervals.

The mind boggles what sort of speeds he may have been doing over that stretch and that no one was injured.

If a driver is banned, detain them until they hand over all sets of keys AND the car is impounded for the length of the ban, regardless of who else has legal use of it!
