Mercedes have released a new map update for NTG2.5

It came in yesterday. Its called Version 8.0 "2012". I wasn't expecting it, and there is no info from Mercedes as to the differences, apart from we know it will have a more up-to-date CDDB (CD/DVD track database) and lots of map changes.

Comand Online Ltd :: Mercedes SatNav/COMAND :: Mercedes Navigation Disks :: Comand APS Map 2012 for Hard Disk COMAND NTG2.5 in A B CLC W211-E CLS SL SLK ML GL R Sprinter Vito Viano

As normal, it contains 2 DVDs to update your COMAND's hard disk and takes a couple of hours to do the update in which time you can't navigate and only the steering wheel controls give you any control over the COMAND (plus volume and MUTE on the comand).

Any new firmware update for NTG2.5 Richard?

Yes and No :-)

There was a new firmware disk with the release of Star Diagnosis that came last month.

However it on my car it didn't want to update anything (and the car has TV, HK, DAB, Comfort Phone, Comand with DVD changer, Media interface, Rear Seat entertainment) - so I suspect it is just a new firmware disk because the last one is 9 months old and beginning to get damaged - or alternatively it supports some new versions of control units.

There is 2 bugs in COMAND NTG2.5 that really annoy me.
a) When you are on the phone, one of the soft keys is labelled "Mike Off" instead of "Mic. off"
b) If you are in reverse with reversing camera displayed, when the DAB unit finishes it's startup (which is 30 seconds after startup) it switches from the reverse camera to DAB display (but maybe not always).

Cheers

Richard

The other bug that still exists is when an SD card is inserted the satellites are lost - This must be hardware dependant as this bug is apparent on my W169 but not my W211 -both have the same firmware which is 09/29 thanks to Richard and Alfie at Comand Online Ltd.

Question: I've just bought a genuine v7 map update DVD from ebay. My W169 currently has v1 maps and the W211 has v5 maps. I've never done an update before and I've read it can take 2+hours. Can you do this update by popping the 1st disk in and driving around like normal (i.e. over a number of days/journeys) or should it be done in one go which may drain my battery unless I go on a long journey?

Whilst the update is happening almost none of the controls on the COMAND work (the steering wheel buttons do in fact work so you can change radio stat ion and alter volume)

The system will still switch off after 20 minutes, and it just restarts from where you left off.

I tend to start it after a run, restart it a few times as needed, then take car for a drive to charge up battery, then continue. Or I put it on the battery charge at work in 'flash update' mode - which is what we use when doing firmware updates..
