NTG2.5 retrofit + W203

I suggest you do a search on the net for info on the cluster upgrade before attempting it so you know exactly what is involved. I know one person on mercedesclub has done it and still hasnt got it fully working. You need to change the fuel sensors inside the fuel the tank to the newer MAPPS type and the wiring, recode rear SAM etc.

Thanks npuk

You have raised what is probably the killer issue - a check on my car reveals that it has the older-type fuel sensors that will not drive the new cluster fuel guage - nor can the new sensors be readily fitted as the loom connector and cabling to the same is different (most probably SAM issues as well/)

In the circumstances, I am inclined to leave things for a year or so and then seek to buy a facelift W203 - far simpler all round!

I remember reading some stuff about that - good reason to leave well alone ;)

Thanks npuk - do you know whether the person you referred to who attempted a cluster upgrade ever got it fully sorted?

Does anyone know for an absolute fact that anyone has ever sucessfully (full functionality achieved) fitted a post-facelift cluster into a pre-facelift W203 - noting inter-alia, the need to switch to MAPPS fuel sensors, run an additional core from the same to the rear SAM, re-code the front and rear SAMS, change the driver airbag clockswitch, indicator/wiper switch, cruise control switch, column shroud etc. etc. - I note there are several web articles re. upgrading the centre console but these are silent re. the cluster?

You may find that quite a few members (and possibly non members) are contemplating or have thought about a mod similar to yours. I think we are waiting for just one person to indicate that they have successfully completed the mod with everything working then one or two will follow..and then the floodgates open.
Its not an inexpensive modification by any means so it needs to be carefully thought out. Perhaps there's someone out there who already has.
I know Richard is looking closely into this.

So we are all still.....waiting.

Hello all...It is me who made the other thread....I have a 2001 W203 Wagon as you can see in my own thread about this. I bought a factory new W209 MOST cluster to my car. Like that look the best. It HAS TO BE new or it wount speak to your car. When it is installed the ODO will read 9999999 and this must be hacked by a cluster hacker to get the right odo on it to show. When it comes to the MAPS sensors, I have not changed them. I programed it with STAR so it works almost OK. But the best thing is to change to the new MAPS. This is only a concern if you have an early 2001 model. Late 2001 have these new sensors. Everything else works perfectly.

Depends totally where and what items you buy...New or used and so on.

I'm in the UK. and think used items would be ok, apart from the cluster.

I'm sure a few people fancy doing this. Alfie. . . . would you have a ball park cost for this.
