Just redialled 150 to check:

I think that's the Telewest (sorry Virgin Media) equivalent of when your existing mobile operator bends over backward to stay with them. And then phones back with an improved deal, and finally begs. ;)

did it all last week .....20 quid saving per month multi room one for the kids new play room ....broadband 4 meg in both rooms ......:bannana:

Run through our channels and we have a shed load more than before, so something's changed.

Let us know how you get on MikeL

Just off the phone, sorry I haven't bothered with the Virgin "buzzwords":

Ended up with 10 meg (from 4 meg), basic phone (same) and medium TV (She said "top" but I think might be medium, not fussed as no TV at the moment) - but same price £37.50. So extra services and no installation charge. I've been itching for a speed increase but couldn't justify the extra tenner.

Might have been flanel but the girl did say length of time is critical as to what they offered (I've been with them over 8 years), still I'm very happy. I also suspect local competition might influence their offer.

The TV is just a bonus to us as we have Sky HD, but unable to get a workable signal (standard or freeview) in our bedroom.

Did anyone hear the report on the radio yesterday? Apparently Virgin Media are currently in talks, looking to drop Sky channels from their line-up because of the cost!

I'd be a little miffed at this, I know there's not a lot on Sky One apart from Simpsons but there's no way I'm missing the next series of Road Wars!!!

And don't forget 24!

IF this happens , the NTL box will be out the door quicker than you can phone sky's 0870 install line !

I fully agree with fuzzer! If sky goes, Virgin goes... Whats cable without Simpsons and the discovery channel?

Because you appear on it?

:D

Yeah right- I wish! I'd amputate my left arm with a spoon tomorrow if they let me transfer to the Thames Valley Tactical Vehicle Crime Unit- You really can't argue with being allowed to hoon around in an Omega all day without having any proper work to do, just hunting... I have to listen to nonsense about cat disputes and the like.

Didn't realise Discovery was a Sky channel. If Sky does pull out then it's back to Freeview for me, not paying £20 a month for most of the UKTV rubbish!

Thanks for the tips - I'll be on the phone looking at my package. I'm essentially on the basic VIP already, however it looks like I can have a couple of extras for nothing now.

Just got this:
Dear customer,

Let’s face it. Things would be pretty boring if choice didn’t exist. There’d be just one kind of airline to fly with. One type of car to drive. And if Sky had their way, there’d only be one place to get TV.

We thought we’d let you in on a few tricks they’ve been trying to get their way.

While we’ve continued to make Virgin Media channels like Living, Bravo and Challenge available to all Sky customers, Sky may withdraw their non-premium channels from Virgin Media’s service – in order to force you into switching service.

Virgin Media were willing to pay an increase in costs in order to get the complete range of Sky content and channels.

However, Sky have consistently demanded an increase that bears no relation to the channels’ market value.

We have refused to accept this increase, since it would mean absorbing significant costs ourselves, and passing the kind of price increase on to our customers that is simply unfair. We are not prepared to rip off our customers.

So Sky have picked up their ball and gone home.

As a Virgin company, we’re well used to the attempts of large corporations trying to manipulate markets, stifle competition and rip off consumers.

Luckily, we don’t think Sky’s the limit.

We think the future’s full of fresh entertainment and communication possibilities. And we’re looking forward to bringing them to you. With all the freedom and choice you deserve.

We’ve launched Virgin Central, a revolutionary type of TV channel, where programmes start and stop when you say so. This is only available on Virgin Media, since Sky don’t have the technology to be able to transmit it. What’s more, it’s available to every single one of our digital TV customers.

And there’s our unique on demand library. A giant collection of over 500 films, 1000 music videos, 100s of TV shows – all at your beck and call. You can access them at any time.

We’re not scared of competition, we welcome it.

To find out more, visit virginmedia.com/fairplay.

Yours,

Not sure if it means that we get Sky1 or not... but either way, it did get me to look at channel 119 (the free on demand stuff) - its WORTHLESS! No simpsons, no south park, no scrubs, no lost! There are something like 9 series of things I would never watch!

A tip for virgin : get comedy central! (or even better, a simpsons-only channel!). Meh, better get some work done...

According to the online papers, the issue isn't closed just yet. Still a chance.

I've just changed my package to VIP @ 85 quid per month. Works out much better for us now. :-)

Sky one and Sky news are gone as of this morning.

Going out on a limb here but Sky One is a channel I wont miss at all. As much as I like the simpsons, 2 hours every day at peak veiwing times is not my idea of cutting edge TV.
Once you've said Lost and 24, you've said it all and I dont see two programs as reason to change my service.

When i read this at first , i thought it was all the sky channels :) im happy with whats been left.

GAAAH!!! I'm starting to DESPISE virgin! I haven't been able to call mobiles nor intenational numbers all weekend!

Why you may ask? Because on my Talk-Anywhere 400 plan (from Telewest) I get 400 minutes to call anywhere in the world as I wish (mobiles, land-lines, etc); but apparently I've made alot of "high cost calls" (i.e. called my family in Italy once a week as I have always done)... and now I have a "level 4 bar".

Called them Friday night, they said "I ran out of minutes, and to make sure I didn't have a huge bill at the end of the month, they blocked high cost calls". Also, if I upgraded to talk-anywhere 800 it would be lifted; I upgraded (£12 more); then I'm told it will take 24 hours to get the ban lifted. Fine... Come saturday night, I'm still banned! I call again and am put on hold for 20 odd minutes. After a while I'm told that they can't do anything as the department that can remove the ban is closed until monday; so I ask to speak to a supervisor. I'm put on hold again! This time for almost an hour; during which I asked a friend to hold the phone several times as I did some other things. Finally someone answers and I need to re-explain the whole thing all over again...

Thats when I'm told that the ban is because I did too many high cost calls, and not because I ran out of minutes. I was also told that I would need to wait until monday to speak to someone from the relevant department to see what they could do with the ban!

Not pleased... especially as I now pay well over £100 to virgin for random services (even my gym is Virgin-owned!). I am seriously starting to get annoyed by their customer services, and all their "additions" to my contracts... They say that they don't have any limits nor caps... but in reality, all that means is that they wont tell you what they are and will randomly stop you from using the services you pay for at a moments whim!

...grrr....

how do you get 16meg broadband for £10 ?

Yeah, how DO you get that deal? Thats amazing! I'm swapping today -err- tomorrow, as all Virgin customer services that can do anything seem closed until tomorrow - if I can get that! Do you get free calls to international mobiles too? Do you have a link or a name?

I found Sky Talk unlimited, but it doesn't include most international destinations (though Italy is one of them, Gambia isn't) and doesn't include international mobiles anywhere but USA and Canada. Thats £5 though...
