Customer retention departments - don't ya just love 'em :D

:D

Shame you have to threaten to leave to get the deal though. I suppose that's how they make they're money though - most people are happy to pay the price without negotiation.

I pretty much negotiate the price on everything I buy. The checkout staff at Waitrose do look at me in the same as they do the old lady who buys baskets full of cat food and Toblerones every morning at 0730 when I try to haggle on the cost of my shopping.

;)

Phoned Virgin last night - selected "thinking of leaving" - said the cost is creeping up, and I thought the package wasn't competitive - landline calls took monthly cost up to £60 in recent months.

Net result was all landline numbers now included, same TV, Broadband (incl AV), new box (HD), re-routing MODEM from upstairs office, to downstairs living room.

Price: £44 per month, no installation or call out charges.

Not bad I thought.

Keep an eye on this in 12months time as you've probably entered into a new 12 month contract at the end of which the charges will revert to the higher rate which entails another phone call to ' re-negotiate'. Been doing this for the past 5 years now and they will credit you the difference between the old and new rates for the first month of billing at the ' new ' higher ' rate. Why the can't just keep it at the competitive rate for ad infinitum just don't know.

Perhaps they think we'll forget to check the bills!!!!!

Regards

It is indeed a further 12 month contract. I've always steered clear from anything that's tied me in for a fixed period (beyond the first 12 months), but having been with them for 8 years or so it's likely I'll be with them for the next 12 months anyway. On this occassion it seemed worth it given the scale of savings.
