Hi,

When the car (W208 CLK 230K) is initially started, and when driving slowly when the car is cold, there is an odd sound from the engine.

Not sure if it is normal. The sound is hard to explain, it's not really a rattle. I'm hoping it's normal and someone can describe it better than me!!

Thanks,
R

I have the same issue. when I start my car, there is a noise that comes from the engine for about 2 minutes. Kind of sounds like a loud diesel car. My one is petrol. Is this normal?

Could be the air pump. I had a similar problem on my SL, the bearings in the pump were on the way out and it made a hell of a racket for a few minutes after start up then stopped when the pump turned off.

I had new bearings fitted and problem solved...

could be the tappets until the oil warms up to get to the top of the engine. Should last only seconds. I am sure experts will give their opinion

230K engines suffer from cracking manifolds, which when cold cause a loud ticking/rattling sound until warm...

That is what I think it could be.

Some can be welded but most can't. £350 each too and a 2 hours to fit.
