Odd tyre wear

Took the Merc to Brighton last weekend, (which was good fun!) and on the way up we stopped to have a break and my OH on locking the car looked back and noticed it looked slighty wonky (low profile tyres and on a hill, good eyes!:D) He went to have a look and the rear offside tyre was flat.
We pumped it up but he could hear hissing of the air coming out straightaway. Bit worrying as we had driven from Plymouth to Salisbury at this point at a good speed!

Luckily for us there was a tyre place just up the road. Took the tyre off and it was bald on the inner edge of about 2 inches and had the wire showing! Other rear tyre was fine. Something as simple as tracking being out perhaps? But it must have been like this for a while, as I have had the car 3 weeks and that can't just have been my driving!

I was expecting a hefty tyre price, but pleasantly surprised at £95 :)

Sounds like a tracking problem is the causation, but, if you have only bought the car 3 weeks ago, looks like the previous owner has swopped that from the front and tried to "hide" the problem...dodgy and dangerous individual...!!

could be
inner edge only = camber angle is out.

another member posted a interesting site by wheels in motion with some good pictures of various geometry faults and their effect on tyres.

in their forum / horrors of the week.

This happened to mine tyres okay 1500miles later france holland etc back home both down to the canvas on the innner edges.

Had to have it 4 wheel tracked by wheels in motion and a couple of adjuster bolts replaced to get it back to spec.

Cost £130 ish iirc not cheap but a lot cheaper than tyres.

On of my rears was out of adjustment as well and that tyre had worn badly to.

Could it be that low pressure had caused the tyre to wear badly (and on the inside edge more becuase of the camber). Did you find the cause of the leak - could it have been present for a while (before getting very bad having been driven on flat when you noticed). Have you checked the pressures since you had the car (and did you check the tyres when buying?)
