Hi guys ...

If i have a wheel that is ET 54 and i need to bring it down to ET49 , how do i do that ?

I know that if it is 49 and i need to bring it to 54 , i can use a 5mm spacer , but how do you bring it down ?

Thanks

Can you do that ? Who would do that ? How much would that cost ?

Ok , another option ...

It is only 5mm difference , would it foul the arches ?

Wheel is a 7.5 x 18 , going on a w168 A class , ideal wheel size is ET54 front and ET49 rear ... however , all four wheels are ET54 .... i realise it will widen the track , and i don't think that rubbing on the suspension would be an issue because the wheels are sitting out 5mm further , rather then 5mm in further ...

take it to a cylinder head specialist... they can skim it

You want to go from et54 to et49? Add a 5mm spacer. Adding a spacer will bring the offset figure down.
The issue is when you want to increase the offset figure, then you have to machine the hub.

Higher the ET / offset the further inside the wheel arch the alloy will sit. Lower the ET / offset the further out the alloy will sit inside the wheel arch. A spacer moves the wheel further out so reduces the ET / offset.

5mm will barely be noticeable .. just put the wheel on

They are 18's on a w168 A class guys , it's gonna be tight under the wheelarch !!

So , i had it completely wrong , putting a spacer in DROPS the offset ? !!:doh:

Thats all good then.

Thanks

P.S. next question , they should have 225/35/18's on them , but they currently have 225/40/18's on them , is this going to interfere with the ABS / ESP or anything like that ( it hasn't got cruise )

where are these wheels being advertised? it would seem strange to fit 2254018 tyres to whels of that offset. I would suggest 22254018 is too large for the 168. 2153518 or 2253518 would be a better choice..

Spacers decrease offset, Milling the wheel increases offset, you can usually go 5mm - 7mm either way from standard without causing any negative handling or performance issues. Anything beyond this and you are asking for major suspension and handling issues.

Chris you have PM

Thanks everyone for explaining offset :):o

Brabus Mono V 1pc
BRA 51272854 front 18x7.25ET54 to use 2253518
BRA 51272849 rear 18x7.27ET49 to use 2253518
he said they were originally purchased for a 168 then transpanted onto a 170, which explains the 2254018 currently fitted.
My suggestion: refurbish at rimfurbish.co.uk
Sell tyres on ebay
Purchasae 2253518 and 5mm rear adapter packs if not already included

Hmmmm ...... getting expensive now ....

Is there any way i could run around on the 40 profiles for a bit , until funds had built up enough to replace all the tyres ?

Not ideal i know .

ET54 front and ET49 rear are correct for the W168 so why do you want to use spacers?

Just be careful. 18's on an A-class make it handle and ride terribly.

Because the wheels i have been offered are all ET54 , so i need to drop the rear ones to 49
