Oil in footwell

Hi all, I have discovered that the previous owner of my car (I only just bought it) has managed to spill oil in the passanger footwell - whats the best way to clean this out?

It's not visible as its a very dark carpet, but it is a little soaked - If I press my hand onto the carpet it comes out black...

I have no idea what the best way to get it out would be. I could use a load of towels, but there must be an easier way?

What model? The passenger carpet can often be removed easily by "untucking" it around the edges. If it's the 202 in the your avatar it's very easy, had mine out this morning.

Once out you could hang it up and use lots of carpet cleaner and water (a Vax type cleaner would be useful once you have the worst off).

Thanks guys, I'll give it a shot :)

After lifting the carpets I noticed that I hadn't socked through and the padding underneath was nice and dry. Just took an old quilt cover and went to town on it :) Mostly its cleaned off, hopefully another couple of tries with that and it'll be dry. Ta all :)
