According to a few threads I've read my 240 should have an oil level check function in the dash, does anyone know how to access it?

Cheers,

On my E240 you do the following:

Switch IGN on so all the dash warning lights are on. Wait approx 10 seconds. You then get a message in the display that says "Display Oil Level?", after which, if you press the "O" button, displays either "OIL LEVEL OK" or "ADD 1.0l OIL" etc.

Its not as accurate as the dipstick but a good indicator.

On my C it is as above, except that instead of "Display Oil Level" I see a picture of an oil can.

The oil check function will only work when the engine is warm and the bulk of the oil has returned to the sump, I find the best time to check is 5 mins after switching off from a journey (either long or short).

As posted above, switch the ignition on so all the dash lights light up but don't start the engine. Wait 10 secs for the oil can icon and clock icon to appear and the mileage and trip meters blank out then press the "O" button twice (I think it's twice). If all is well you should see the words 'o.k.' appear in the trip meter or -0.5L if low or +0.5L if high, the number will be higher if you have more or less oil in the sump :)

Just been out to the car park to try it and it read "ok", odd looking font though.

Does anyone know what the 'clock' symbol in the lower panel means?

You can reset the ASSYST service timer count down with another combination of key presses.

The on board computer/sensor is not accurate and you cannot beat the old fashioned oil dipstick. Took car fast around a couple of corners and upon switching the car off i decided to check the oil level via the on board computer (no warnings had come on previously) and the compuer was telling me to reduce the engine oil level only upon checking the level independantly via the on board computer...

It still continued to indiciate that the oil level was too high after an hour of standing still/idle when I went to check again...
