But,

How come its listed as a C220 if its a C36 ?

and what the hell is option 984 (elimination of ownership certificate)

The ownership paper thing is a historical German issue, the car was manufactured in DE but wasn't destined for DE use so a DE ownership paper would be pointless.

I think this code relates to when they go from one model year to the next i.e. W208 to W209 (for example), or come out with a facelift model. Can't be 100% sure though.

I think the AMG cars from that era leave the MB factory as standard models and then move to the AMG factory to get the AMG treatment.

Saying that I would have thought that the C36 would have started out life as a C280 though.

804 Change of year of model, last figure shows new model year

(I bought it from new in 2004 (may/june) but it is Pre facelift) does this mean I have the updates from the 2004 build?

You see, I'm trying to assertain whether my car can be programmed for the folding mirrors on lock or the fog light on when turning thingy through star.

Your car is model year 2004

My '202 has 809 on it, as did my previous one. This means that dispite being from September and July 1998 respectively both were MY99 models and have the updates for that year.

Howard, did you get the registration number as well? If so, have a look on the RAC site or similar to see what the V5 has it's model registered as? I'm guessing that this might be a C220 which is dressed up

Oh, and I saw a W202 in the colour that we'd been looking for earlier today, but unfortunately it wasn't parking so I could get to see what the VIN was for colour identification. Oh well, you've got it now!

The C36 was the first official MB/AMG model but it wasn't a production line, mass-produced model like the C43 and other more modern AMGs. All were made from a C280 AFAIK but this is an early one and maybe they experimented

This is what the EPC has to say about it, the 022 in the VIN indicates that it's a C220 anyway, but check out the special installations section!

The reg is N237 BTF - can someone look it up as i can never get the RAC site to work ....

The EPC also tells me that the car is a C220 and the only badge applicable for the bootlid is "C220", the AMG badge and C36 badge are not for use with this vehicle.

DO NOT PANIC - it is not the end! The C36, especially early ones are odd to say the least. The W124 E36 etc do not even exist according to the EPC, it can't tell the difference between an E36 and an E320, mainly because AMG worked their magic outside of the stealership's knowledge.

If you really want to know, you can call AMG and provide the chassis number, they will confirm or deny and what they say is law as far as I'm concerned!
