Ok, found out about this C36 i'm interested in ..

C36?

Easiest way to tell is to roll underneath the front valance with a digital camera and snap the exhaust manifold. That'll tell you everything you need to know

I've tried searching on some C36's that have been listed in the past week or so and have queried them with the AA site. Heres some results:

Car 1
Registration P602ACD
Vehicle make MERCEDES
Model C CLASS C 36

Car 2
Registration K4HWG
Vehicle make MERCEDES CARS
Model C CLASS 360 C 36

Car 3
Registration P789KMS
Vehicle make MERCEDES
Model C CLASS C 36

They are all listed as C36's. Good luck with the viewing Howard. Hope its a good'un.

Here's how a replica can look like - Even though its still got chrome trim, and the wrong rear clusters :)

Keep us posted on your findings Howard :)

Don't know Mick,

I still havent managed to make contact with the chap yet, he's a friend of a neighbour, who i don't see that often.... all a bit round the bloody houses i'm afraid...My neighbour says 'My pal is thinking of selling his car ' I say ' OK , put me in touch' , so far nothing, when i saw the car the other day, i put a little note on it with my mobile number... but not heard anything so far .... :(

I'm reduced to sneaking round copying down VIN's by torchlight at the mo...

If its a C36 probably around five grand , if its a C220 it doesn't matter as I won't be buying it !

This is bornite just in case anyone is wondering

The care is a C220 that has factory options to look like an AMG. My bro has a similar car but his started as a c200. It looks the same, has the same kit/wheels exhaust etc. But the engine is defo not an AMG. I say its definitely a fake......
My brothers car had all the bits done when new and the guy that bought it paid almost as much as he would have for a real AMG.. What a waste of money...

Right , been conversing with Otfried (a moderator on the AMG Owners Club Germany ) who apparently knows people at Affalterbach ....

Here is his reply :-

'Hi Howard,

the mentioned car isn’t a “AMG”.
It was delivered to the UK on February 15th, 96’.
Originally painted in bornite metallic with black leather Interior. The car was fitted with an AMG Body Kit and AMG 17” rims.

The engine originally fitted was the in-line four-cylinder M 111.961 {111 961 22 098884}. The car should be still fitted with the 4-speed automatic gearbox {722 423 03 947029}. '

Bugger ...... :(

If i see the guy around i'll still ask to have a peek though, just in case everyone is wrong ......

Sorry to hear the news Howard.

Looks like in this case the EPC was right :)

EDIT: forgot to add that it's still one of the best specified C220s you will ever find! :)
