Quick Question- On my E280 OM642 iv has that P0100 for months now, last time it was on star tech said left side MAF faulty. Thing is iv no power loss, management light or poor consumption, car drives very well kickdown etc. should I buy a new maf or just leave it as it is as it car is working fine. Apparently I'd need to buy the whole unit that sits over the engine for air intake to replace just that one maf for £268? What do you guys suggest?

Doesn't sound like its running a factory map from what you have described

Are you implying that it may have been remapped by the previous owner?

It seems that way. Only vehicles I have seen with the same symptoms have been remapped.
Maybe the forum modding specialists can shed some light?

I'd go along with that. I've seen a few with this fault code but no symptoms of any fault at all. Certainly some of them were remapped as owners admitted it. If you change the MAFs chances are the fault code will still be there. Don't ask how I know this... ;-)

You may be correct coz I always wondered how my car has so much power considering it's the E280 version and not the E320 though it's the same engine. I get around 42mpg on motorways at a steady 70 and 33-37 around town. How can I verify if it's been mapped or not?

Could this also explain then why when I had a broken 02 sensor a couple of months ago I had no Engine management on,it was only detected on STAR when I was getting my SRS fault diagnosed when tech told me about the sensor which I replaced and the MAF fault codes which I chose to ignore as car is fine! I'm now thinking my car is remapped by previous owner. Would a vehicle background check reveal this for me?

O2 sensor never puts the management light on in my experience. Only people who monitor their fuel consumption very closely will spot the increase in consumption associated with failure of the O2 sensor.

cant you get in touch with the previous owner and ask them????

I can't,bought the car off a trader that sells repossessed cars by banks so not sure he'd know who the previous owner was

Update: Car has gone into limpmode two snow in a week after a some hesitation on acceleration (changing from 2nd to 3rd). After a restart all is ok again. The MAF fault code is still showing so do think it's time to change it. I had it on STAR and it showed the Left one to be broken. I have no EML

Later (265) engine in mine but same symptoms were cured by replacing the O ring on the turbo outlet to long ally pipe running to the intercooler. No loss of performance, no sound of air escaping, maf code fault when on Star, judder when cold that seemed to be gearbox related...but wasn't. Replaced O ring...fault code disappeared as did judder. O ring came out in three pieces.

Just saying. :dk:
