Om642 Servo motor errors.

Hello Team UK,

I've had the servo inlet flap motor fail twice on this engine.
Question: How do I know when the fuse fails versus when the actual spring loaded servo motor fails?

On both instances it was scanned at the same independent mercedes garage.

No idea , but if you try the 4.7k ohm resistor fix and that works then it’s not the 15amp fuse which covers the inlet port motor
 
There is other systems that share the fuse to the servo motor. If the motor goes short circuit and blows the fuse the car will cut out. As W1ighty says the resistor will mimic the motor impedance and enable you to clear the code.
 
Thank you both. I wanted to confirm whether it were an actual requirement or just a rip off. Next time, I'll try it.

So far on the life of the v221, it has been replaced twice. I never checked on either ocassion whether it were a mere fuse or the servo itself. Either way I was billed twice.
1. Around 60K.
2. Now at just over 100K.

Any symptoms of the failed fuse? First time it failed I sensed a loss of power. Second time I couldn't drive beyond 1500 RPM.

If the 15amp fuse fails , it covers the actuator , inlet motor and I think exhaust back pressure as well .
You can pull the fuse and look at it to check it .

In my 2010 A207 when the swirl flap servo failed it went short circuit which obviously took the fuse out. This stopped the car stone dead. Ignition would come on but no crank. Had to disconnect the actuator to get it to run with new fuse and cel. Resistor trick got rid of cel. In the end I chose to map out the swirl flap actuator rather than replace it due to the associated work it would entail.
