Over to the dark side!

If it were me I would get some AMG style 18's, a CL style grille and a flat bonnet badge to start.

Here is a pic from another members car.....

I also came from a 335i and a CSL and once you get used to the Merc ride you will love it and not want the 19s.

This is the AMG wheels I like on black cars....

AMG Style VI I think....

Have to agree to disagree, not on the 212, the flat badge makes it look bad and the stick up badge is so nice to see

This is exactly what I have planned! I'm still convinced the car is so big it warrants 19s though

19s - now I'm sold!

I did exactly the same excersise with my S211. I photoshopped all the wheel versions I liked onto a side view of my car and finally chose the CLS 18s as the nicest (to me).

I agree 19's look best however on the pictures above the 19" ones are also fitted to a E63 with different front and rear bumper and side skirts so the complete look does look better anyway.

Stil think 18" best compromise for ride / looks

Just noticed that too. Meanwhile, in my quest for visual reference, I found this. Real car. Real 19" AMGs on it. Real smart I think too.

What do you reckon about tinting the rear windows? I'm in 2 minds...

Bit van like IMO...

Here's mine, with its 18" AMGs, and tinted rear windows. I think the tints really help the look, and like the fact that they hide my 3 year old in the back.

thats the model I would have had if I didn't get this one by default! **DRL** envy :)

And here was I hoping you had bought an Imperial Star Destroyer:p.

Nice car and welcome to the site:).

thanks for the quick replies guys. This seems like a really busy forum which is good. I used to use a BMW one which just died a death.

I thought 19s would be needed as the car is so bulky and has such huge arches to fill! .

Why on earth would anyone want to fill the arches? Think about it. If you really did that, when you were steering right or left the wheels would hit the arches every time you went over the tiniest of bumps. The gap is there for a purpose: to allow the excellent Mercedes suspension to do its work. It is because of the suspension travel that it doesn't have the awful ride of an Audi or a 5 series.

By the way, I have driven the 212 with all the available wheel sizes up to 18 inch. The larger wheels greatly increase road noise. And spoil the true Mercedes ride. They also reduce the feel of the steering due to the greater resistance to turning of wide low profile tyres. They also aquaplane more easily, have less grip in the wet, and increase fuel consumption (see data in the price list). It is only the little boy in us that wants to look like 19 year olds in a Nova. Logically the bigger wheels make no real sense. And look naff IMO.

I'm really beginning to believe that the average British male would now ideally like solid alloy wheels with no tyre at all.
