I have a 7G auto CLK with paddles on the wheel. When I select M mode, changing between 2 and 3 is a "slammer" in both up and down. All other changes are sliky smooth. I will check my speeds, but as I am coming down 6,5,4,3,ouch,2 I imagine I am at a reasonable speed< estimate 30kph. It is always only 2-3 or 3-2, every time. I also get the same on C or S but less frequently.
Do I still have a transmission problem. The transmission has had heaps of work done on it by a dealer, but I am still concerned by this.

thanks Ian

Given the fact that the dealer has been involved, I'd be inclined to keep it there with them until you get it solved as it might require the involvement of Merc (Aus).

Ask to drive a similar car with the same spec and see if it is any different .........

yes its a known issue on the gearbox and IIRC it means the box has to be stripped out. there was another thread on it just the other week.

Hmm, my 5 speed box had a similar problem (2-3 and 3-2 very lumpy). I know nothing about how these boxes work, or if there is any significant similarity between the 5 and 7 speeders, but I assume they work on the same principles and there is 'more of teh same' in a 7 speeder. On that basis, the fix in my box was somewhat expensive, the bits werent' too bad (something called a sprag??), but the costs to remove box, take apart, remove bits and replace were something else!. I can imagine the dealer wont be in any hurry to fix (which I guess in dealer terms would be a new box rather than a repair job).

In my view you need to persist big time

Meeting with the Aus MB rep on Dec 14th at the dealers. Car so bad, the service manager has told me not to use manual, remain in C mode. Will post the results when known.

Solved

Happy to report the problem has now been fixed, with the help of MB Australia and a different dealer.
Problem came down to "adaptions" being changed. I think this is simply some adjustments to the transmission. This dealer was reight on to the problem and took only a day. Car in at 9am, collected it at 4pm and the car is brilliant. :bannana:

Excellent, always nice to hear something positive.
