hey guys,
just collected my second hand C200i, im so pleased with it.

regrettably on the smooth drive home from manchester a grit lorry splattered the car.

subseuqently the bonnett has marks all over it, most seem like they are rusting all ready...
i called a body shop place and they quoted £300. does anyone know the best option for me?

thanks

fred

Have you tried the garage you bought it from?
It must have been like that when you bought it.

It's technically impossible for rock salt distributed from the back of a gritting lorry to chip or damage original paintwork even if you pass it at speeds exceeding 70 mph, unless its not the correct spec of salt in there?

I agree with rf065 are you definitely sure they wern't there when you bought it, maybe masked or hidden by snow / dirt ?

Or maybe they had just washed the car when you viewed it?
Wet paintwork will hide a lot of faults.

If they've already started to rust, then they were definately on the car when u bought them. Maybe you should go back to where you bought it from

thanks guys,
on this one sorry to say. im right, i wish you was right. when i bought the car i inspected it, test drove it and was with the sellar for 2 hours. Im a nightmare customer, and this particular cars bonnett was A1. ( i checked the body work, = no issues)
the grit lorry maybe was going fatser im not sure, but i felt the grit hit hard, very hard.
im telephoned the council and saee where i can go, if not i will swallow it and pay the £300 for a re-spray.
but thanks anyway guys much appreciated

Try contacting the local coucil where the damage happened by the gritting and they may let you claim against them.

Sorry, but that would be a complete waste of time. Assuming they have a winter maintenance procedure and the gritters comply with the relevant standards, the claim would be filed in the 'no chance' drawer to rot.

Well, I'd also like to sue someone or claim compensation! I just came back from the supermarket and I find my freshly bought loaf all falling apart, in slices of more or less the same size. The crums are even starting to fall out of it. I'm sure it wasn't like that when I bought it! I blame that bloke on his bike who wizzed past me on my way back.

I went past a gritter last night and washed the car today and its all okay, well aprat from the other rust:D

the bread thing im not sure about? lol. weird..
off topic a bit but anyway...
thanks guys much appreciated,
i have checked in with the council and they have actually paid out before this is a issue at the moment, as a lot of contractors are driving too fast, and not having there lights on..
the woman i called at the council is hopeful as other people have claimed.
Its actually via the local council ..
the answer is simple,...
if u got some idiot lorry driver drving too fast, gritting the road, then he should follow procedure, if not, claim, simple,
im not paying for a respray for something whiich someone else is liable for..
my adivce to anyone who has ben in the same situation, is to find out your rights...! :-)

thanks guys, will keep you posted.

May have been using 'table salt'?

Go through the council. It will take months to sort out, but is definately worth a shot. I got £900 worth of bodyshop work out of them for a small surface scratch cause by a wheelie bin blowing over when they first issued them. It was a pain as they wouldn't admit liability at first. I was keen to point out to the insurers that if we didn't get a result within 7 days I would be taking their client (council) to court so that a judge could determine liability. They admitted liability without a fuss.

If you look hard enough you may also find it is worth getting the wings/wheel arches done under the same claim :D

Who do you think pays for the increased liability insurance premiums because of fatuous claims, the council tax payer that's who.

I made a successful claim against my local council after driving across a large pot hole knocking the steering alignment out.

Pretty straightforward, wrote a letter with photos of said pot hole and they coughed up :)
