Just noticed this, going away for a few days, will visit main dealer on my return. In the meantime any advice would be most welcome ie will Mercedes repair FOC. B6327DF0-D70A-40AB-8C20-CB244462C849.jpegCar is April 2017 owned since new has not been outside of Mercedes for servicing/bodywork inspection. The picture is of the rear spoiler, there is also evidence of lifting lacquer on drivers door handle, and the base colour Jupiter Red. Thank you.14D45D72-350F-41D2-A9DD-9BF84D850600.jpeg

Welcome to the Forum

There are many posts on here regarding lacquer peel on certain shades of red. Mercedes have been rather variable in their response.

If you use the search function you will find more information on this.

Good luck. 👍👍

Yet MB maintain there are no reported problems with Jupiter Red:dk:. Can't remember anyone who has had success getting MB to repaint a JR car. Clearly all are "one offs". Hope you get a more positive response.

Welcome along. Please keep us informed as to MB response. Interesting pictures.

Good luck! I had a bad lacquer peeling problem on the bonnet and roof of my 2008 S204, MB were not in the slightest interested despite me giving them documentation from a reputable German paint manufacturer showing it was a problem from when the car body was originally painted. Had to hve the damage repaired myself at a cost of £600!

Do not think we have had a A series with a paint problem but as advised MB can be very selective about who they give a respray too,it helps to have been a one owner car and a full MB service record ,as already stated best of luck ,if you look at the history of the red paint problems on here and who got a respray ,for me best not buy a red MB but thats no help hope you get something from MB.

Your bootlid could do with a bit of polishing.

I couldn't quite make out where it was , especially with all the scratches , Ok , the inside of your door handle could do with a polish.

My whole car is doing this now. It’s a 2002 CLK 500. I’ve managed to “ clear “ the bonnet, roof and half the boot lid so far. It looks a bit of a mess at the moment but once it’s all off I’ll rub it down smooth then take it to get it wrapped / painted.

In a best-case scenario, MB will accept liability, your car will undergo complete paint stripping to bare metal, then resprayed (they would not do the bumpers or spoilers under the warranty because the bumpers and spoilers are made of plastic, not metal, so not covered, though you can pay the body shop extra to repaint these as well, if you wish).

In a worst-case scenario, you'll have to get this repaired at your own cost, in which case you'll carry out a local repair and hope that this issue doesn't crop up again in other parts of the car.

Thank you. the lacquer peel is actually on the spoiler and door handle both plastic. At the moment there is no evidence of any lacquer peel on any metal panel. i will book the car in for the MD to inspect towards the end of this month or early Feb. Will be interesting to get their opinion. Will post outcome when known.

They will probably take the position that the car is out of warranty and therefore nothing can be done by MB.

And plastic bits were never covered in the first place, as far as I know... but no harm in trying.

EDIT: They might want to check the paint depth to see if these areas have been resprayed at some point. You may be the first owner, but cars sometimes have panels resprayed by the dealer before delivery, e.g. due to getting damaged in transit.

I just had a look on ebay there are many red door handles on there for an A Class ranging from £20-£50.

If Merc don't replace then that would be cheaper than painting yours
