Peeling Lacquer

It's still a bit of a strange decision by MB. I would have pressed for a full respray. Leaving some panels not repaired is half measures. What's going to happen when these panels start blistering which is inevitable I would have thought. Those owners of Fire Opal cars got full repaints except for the plastics. Now that MB have in effect admitted faulty manufacture I'd press for more. It's not being greedy, just practical.

I do agree with you. But my assumption is no evidence of blistering no need to be fixed, as I previously said, to the naked eye I could not see any blemishes on the paintwork apart from the pictures posted of the lacquer peel, that is visible only on plastic parts (the person who inspected I assume uses some special light to identify flaws). I presume Mercedes know what causes the problem, but they are not disclosing, plenty of “ideas why” on forums. But I also consider myself fortunate as lots of people with a similar problem seem to have got nowhere. It’s 6 years old 30k miles, and keeping for the foreseeable future and if anything else appears I will go back.

Hopefully the final update. Collected car from Marshall Paint & Body Repair Centre Newbury today it was there in total 40 days. I was provided with a print out of all the work completed and
in addition the rear spoiler (I believe this contributed to the delay) was replaced and the rear bumper was dismantled and painted as well in addition to what has been previously posted. In summary a lot of dismantling and back to bare metal then painted has been completed. So I am pleased and consider myself fortunate considering the amount of people you say they have been “knocked back” by Mercedes.
