Hi

i was listening to the radio last night and someone phoned in and the DJ asked what car they drove.

Her answer was:

"a mercedes cdi coupe" (pronounced coop)

This made me wonder; does anyone know of anyone who drives and owns a car but doesnt realise exactly what they have? ie they could own a standard car and not know its name or refer to it as something odd as above, or they may own a rare car and not know its true value...?

You only have to look at car adverts to see how true this is!

I don't think that is uncommon especially, dare I say, amongst some of the fairer sex, although blokes can be as bad.
Some think of car simply as a mode of transport & do not pay attention to details. Unfortunately this may also apply to basic maintenance of said cars...
At least she knew the brand and the fact that it was a diesel

At the end of the day, people who arent into cars and only use their cars to get from A - B have no reason nor care.

I have a mate (male) who drives a Ford Ka! who we all mock on a daily bases.

What about other fields of intrest? Football for example, I have no idea who plays for what team, what ground clubs have, how many rounds are in the Pepsi-Cola cup ;) as I dont care. Im not even sure of the number of players on a team (11?)

Yes, I thought I bought a rare low mileage C124 as a cusp classic with very little depreciation and low maintenance costs.

Turns out I own something far more exotic judging by its Italian supercar appetite for garage invoices, it just looks like a £1200 CE.

Ade :D

I knew someone who thought that because Mini was owned by BMW that it was therefore rear wheel drive.

How many brochures actually print the word coupe as coupé ?

Surely without the accent over the e it should be pronounced coop....:D

There has already been a recent question on this forum from a purchaser of an MB who hadn't realised the car was RWD.

FWD and RWD are hardly ever mentioned as a feature any more. There was a point where people started assuming all cars were FWD (or didn't care) and I think that was about when Ford replaced the Sierra with the Mondeo.

most people dont have a clue, cars are just tools to these people....

the most common dialogue on my mobile - several times a day.

Me: Ah yes, which one sir?
Caller: The silver one
Me: Do you know the model? Price?
Caller: Not sure ive lost it on me screen...
Me: What sort of Mercedes are you looking for? Whats your budget?
Caller: Not really sure

Hi Jay - you sell Mercedes? what price are you looking for it?

Which is a help when it comes to refilling the tank ...

My girlfriend and I were driving back home from Brooklands Museum this afternoon. She points to an SLK with the roof down in the MB World car park and says "That's the car I keep telling you about - the one being driven by one of the other mums at Izabella's (her 5 year old!) school"

"Thats nice I say"

She replies with - "But hers has got four doors"

Cue. Deep sigh.

I bought a Triumpg 2.5 PI several years ago. The chap I bought it from told me it had been the company car of Standard Triumph's Marketing Director, who bought the car when he retired, and kept it until he died.

It turned out the car had a TR6 engine, and was a prototype Chicane.

Probably means bu&&er all to most of you, but I was chuffed :D

I have a friend who often lets me drive both of his Mercedes whenever we go anywhere and that's why I now own one. One day we were driving down the M11 and he asked what I was doing when I was playing with the cruise/speed limiter. I told him and he didn't have a clue what that second steering column stalk did. The amazing thing is that you'd think a man with nine points on his licence would find a speed limiter rather useful.

I drove another chap's Mondeo once and adjusted the steering wheel in and out. He was gobsmacked and said he'd had the car for 40,000 miles and not realised that the wheel went in and out as well as up and down. His previous Mondeo had only had the up and down adjustment and he naturally assumed the new one would be the same. He suffered from a bad back caused by the Mondeo's driving position that two minutes reading the manual would have cured.

I once went to France with four other guys in a Lexus LS400. We got back into the car with wet coats on and the windows steamed up of course. The driver did not have a clue how to operate the aircon.

If these people are so clueless about fairly basic functions of the modern motor car, one must ask how much they know about how to deal with ABS brakes, etc.

One day, come the Revolution, all drivers will have their cars taken from them and reallocated one according to their ability. Most of the folk who have decent cars now will be running around in Reliant Robins when my party gets in power.
