Petrol puzzle?

After running on cheap petrol for the past 2 years I changed to the expensive stuff and now I find a drop in performance.

I ran the tank down to near empty and used a bottle of Comma Detox for enhancing performance etc. I than tanked up with the higher octane and ran it as normal, y'know shopping with the wife, no reason to open it up.

So today, after doodling around for a fortnight, I had reason to floor it to overtake a line of HGVs. I was dismayed to find no grunt and especially no whiplash like there is normally when I floor it.

I'm wondering if the lady previous owner had it tuned for lower octane. The previous owner had it for 7 years and she lived on a farm.

Maybe I should go back to lower octane?

May be the air filters need changing due to
Being on a farm for that length of time
or just a good service , I bet under the bonnet
Is rarther dirty ;)

Premium fuels already contain quite a lot of fuel additives and detergents, and add even more additives it is not recommended.

It is possible that the combination of the fuel additives already present in the Premium fuel and Comma Detox is causing the performance issues, either through high concentration of additives, or incompatibility.

This is why MB do not approve of fuel additive, but do approve of Premium fuels - their worry is that owners will add to much of the stuff if adding the fuel additives themselves.

Thanks Andrew, but the car has full service history and filters have been changed regularly.
Under the bonnet is as clean as a whistle, so I think markjay may be right.
I'll run it to near empty and put half a tank of premium in and see how it performs.

Try filling it with diesel ☺

Takes a few tanks to go through unless you reset the adaptations.

Just use 99RON VPower or Tesco Momentum. Nothing added. Fuel is good enough for plenty of timing and power.

95RON is garbage in a performance car towards top end of revs.
