Peugeot servicing costs

Waited in my local Peugeot showroom for 1 hr today whilst my mini got its MOT and saw/overheard the following and had to share:

Oil change+filter...£19.99 !

Phone call to customer...whilst your wheels were off noticed new brake pads needed...(the dreaded phone call from Merc dealers). Guess what, cost was something like £45 total for 2 wheels.

Could not help contrast with Merc prices...I know we are not comparing like for like, especially with fully synth oil, but even still.

And every customer was pleased / staff were pleasant...when I sit in Merc/BMW showrooms, seems like every other customer is completely p****d off. The cars didn't look bad either!

I wonder how they make their money then - cars they even sell have 4 years 0 per cent finance...

Was this the 'fast fit' side of the workshop?

I've had several 405's & 406's as company cars, and I was so impressed with my first 405 (compared to the Cavalier it replaced) that I bought my wife a 106, when I previously wouldn't have considered it.

You do hear an awful lot of complaints though, especially with recurring electrical and suspension problems. My last 406 had an engine management problem for the 18 months of the 3 yrs I 'owned' it. In the end the leasing company agreed to take it back early at their expense - I only found out later that Peugeot had taken another identical car we had back themselves.

All of the cars would start off OK, but in the end when mine were going in for a service, I wouldn't get it back for several days while they rebuilt the suspension & brakes.

As far as I could see it was the standard dealer/showroom service operation. The oil serice was on a promotional display.

Breakdown of my wife's 206cc "A" service

Oil Filter £7.92
Housg Plug SE £0.91
Bulk 10w40 Oil £42.50
Washer liquid £0.81
Oil Top up £11.50
Petrol Cleaner £12.50
Engine Flush £12.50
Labour £60.30

+ Vat = £175

The £19.99 is probably just a one off promotional offer for a short while on certain model (s) under terms & conditions and may well have additional costs on top when enquiring...

peugeot 106 oil change

Took my daughters 106 to the 'express fit' section of the local peugeot dealer for an oil filter and oil change. No need to book went straight in. Total price £9.95 yes £9.95 inc VAT.

I watched the mechanic do it, new filter used and oil drained not 'sucked' out as some 'budget' outfits do, then refill.

The mechanic even adjusted the handbrake cable FOC as he noticed it was new and the handbrake needed a couple of clicks to many to engage.

Good service or what?

Is that the dealer on Molly Millar's Lane Barry? If so a former colleague of mine took her 306 cabrio there and received pretty shoddy service. Maybe they've upped their game a bit?

They are working on a loss or just about covering cost of parts involved unless Peugeot UK is subsidising the cost with a contribution - from a business point of view I cannot see them doing this as long term thing or on all their models. I have a suspicion that this only applies to entry level models i.e. 106 in perhaps an attempt to persuade the owners to upgrade their models later on...;)

Maximum level of engine oil that a 106 with a 1.3 (ish) engine will consume is 3.7 litres.

Hello Barry,

Sorry if I sound rude but you bought in to the MB brand. We all did. The MB dealer gets to keep all the money they make from servicing after they have paid for the franchise fee: they pass that cost on to us. And some of us are so suckered by the MB brand we just keep grumbling and paying though the nose.

This is because they realise the brand marketing has nothing to do with the reality of actual ownership...but for every one disgruntled MB customer those clever marketing folks have another 2 newbies-suckered-by-the-MB-brand-image lined up to take their place.

If you want quality and customer service that matches what you pay then buy a Mondeo: I have and it is first class.

Well I owned a Peugeot prior to this car (3.0 V6 Coupe) and I don't ever remember anything being like 19.99. I guess that would be a loss-leader for the budget models. I do remember being astounded at the cost of replacement wiper blades (unique for that car). The major plus with owning the car though was that the service interval was 2 years/24000 miles - so it was nice not having to visit a dealer for that length of time. They did suggest that you brought the car in between times for an interim check (as they would), but I just got the oil changed at a local service centre. I think the dealer was quoting significantly more than 19.99 for this. Even then I tended to take my own oil (5 litres) and filter. That way I knew that my car had not been filled with below par stuff -and they were never likely to have my filter in stock.

Dealers are dealers. Making money is the name of the game - but you would expect the so called premium marques to be that much more costly!

Cost of the finance is included the total price of the car.

Anything that says 'interest free credit' is overpriced :)
