Maybe the wrong section? Apologies if so, admin please move accordingly.

Just thought I would share pics of my recently installed Kenwood KDC-BT8041U. This cost a total of £245 fitted including ipod wires and steering controls adapter.

The unit sports:
  • Direct Ipod connection (with full control)
  • Bluetooth handsfree with caller display/ sms notification etc
  • CD player
  • FULL usage of steering controls in W208 CLK
The only issue with this head unit is the blue lighting, most of which you can turn off as shown in the pics. This does look nice in the car and I would recommend this as an ideal solution for a single ipod/ bluetooth unit. I for example, have the iphone in the glove box connected via hard cable (for music) and also connected via bluetooth for phone calls!

Apologies for the shocking quality, iphone strikes again!!!

Why do stereo manufacturers insist on using blue LED's in everything ...

Remember the good old days , when Alpines lit up green , unless you had a top of the range model that would switch to orange as well ? ;)

Can you share what adaptors were required to get the steering controls and the unit working and where you got any required adaptors. Any other tips on the install would also be useful.

Tried a couple of units and having trouble getting something that will work and allow steering control. Mine has a Bose system if that makes a difference.

Grandad, get down with the Kidz!

My Alpine is Red or Orange or lights off for a completely dark cabin :bannana:

My CLK had the original 'Audio 10' cassette head unit with Cd changer in boot (which no longer works as not compatible). This uses original ISO connections so no extra leads were required in this area. The only thing was a £1.50 aerial adapter!

Regarding steering controls, the fitter had to remove my clocks to complete this installation, as the aftermarket unit actually plugs in here as opposed to behind the head unit. This is a kenwood part costing £44.99, part number CAW-MB1080.

The ipod lead fitted easily into the glove compartment through the same space as the small light, I would ideally have had this in my centre console but didn't trust the fitter not to damage the trim. A solid decision when he cracked the front plastic cover on the clocks when fitting the steering adapter!

The mic easily fitted behind the trim of the A pillar with no problems.

BTW, the call quality on this is excellent. It has parrott built in and even at high speeds on the motorway call quality is solid. Sound is also considerably better in the car, the unit has cross faders and an internal amp so a bit of fettling has vastly improved the quality. FYI I do NOT have the bose amps, so don't know if this unit would power these properly.

What you doing with the old changer ? ;)

Might be interested in it if you want to get rid , the one in the blue clk has just packed up ...

Funny you should say that, as I was on ebay yesterday seeing what they go for! Yes I am definitely going to sell it, so will give you first refusal as you asked. Should reach the magic 30 posts today so will drop you a PM once I have a good idea of what its worth
